I prefer XP, have multiple copies & run it on 3 machines, unfortunately, it seems like every major upgrade I do triggers the reactivation program. Am more than a little tired about arguing with MS about reinstallation every freaking time...

Just reinstalled on one of the kid's machines after HD failure & replacement, not looking forward to begging for another authorization key.

What soundcards are you guys/gals using in your setups? I have a soundblaster audigy x gamer and everytime I install XP on my system and the xp compatable drivers the soundcard has lots of crackles, pops, static. I was wondering if anybody else had a problem with their soundcards.

Ran 2k from the time it was in Beta2 until the release of XP. Been running XP ever since. Seems to be more stable, less flakey on some driver support, and runs the few games I play much better. It is a bit too pretty right out of the box but once you turn all that crap off it's fine.

I voted for XP, but you really can't go wrong with either XP or 2K. I like them both a lot.. Do NOT use 98.

Win2000 no ifs ands or buts.. it is so much better, less crappy bloat and more compatible with stuff than XP.. stability is awesome, and i personally find compatbility to be top notch... I dislike XP greatly... it sucks to be honest (IMO)

Windows 2000 is the shiznit!

That's a pretty ridiculous statement. The carmaker doesn't lock you out of your car when you put a new stereo in it.

i think you missed my point.

I dislike MSs tactics more from a privacy standpoint.

as i suspected... this has nothing to do with "being treated like a criminal".

My sister wanted to try out netmeeting for teleconferencing, so I tried to help her out. I went to MSs site to install the newest version of netmeeting. First of all I couldn't download just netmeeting, and by the time the download site was down, it had upgraded explorer, installed MSNmessenger and a bunch of other crap. This is the kind of junk that pisses me off. The MS trend in general.

msn messenger is already installed on xp....

well ive sampled the entire lot... as im sure many of you have.... i like win2k best so far... but all have their ups and downs....
xp has too many issues i found... and it is really picky about old software(ie... autocad 2000, norton antivirus, adaptec ez-cd creator4 and some other games that werent suppsoed to run in windows NT)
although it is easy as hell to install

win2k ive found doesnt play all video games properly or not at all..
but its really reliable for the most part...

98.... what can i say.... the only real problem with that is unless you dont mind rebooting a billion times... stick with that

<< Win 2000, by far... more compatibility, less bloat. >>

As I recall, via Task Manager, XP, off a fresh install/boot takes less memory then a Win2K fresh install/boot.

And with tweaking services, I can get XP down to a small amount of memory.. from 74.4mb on a fresh install/boot to 60.2mb..

I've seen it as low as 54mb with major tweaking.
