I got a few questions about networking. Hope you guys can help me out.

1. Which OS should i use win98se, win2k , win nt?? Is there better stability and sercuring of one OS over the others???

2. I heard lots of ppl talking about NAT. What exactly is it??
Is it better then using ICS program?

3. If i decide to make one of my computer a proxy server, will i have trouble playing lan game or playing games on interent??

4. Is there any webpage you guys know of that help you setup a proxy server??

thx for all those that reply

1) need more info... are you talking about which OS for the server or clients?

2) NAT = Network Address Translation
ICS = internet connection sharing

NAT is what makes windows ICS work... softwares like sygate uses NAT also... other software like wingate use proxy instead of NAT...

3) should have no problem... unless for some game servers, they don't allow 2 users to logon with the same IP address... in that case 2 PCs in your network cannot go onto that game server at the same time

4) try HomePCLAN

Win2k for everything. Linux for servers, if you are up to it.

Network Address Translation (NAT) is used to hide multiple hosts behind one IP address. It's used by ICS, those "routers" that are so popular, and nearly every other connection sharing service.

Win2k's RRAS can do NAT, which want to try sometime...

(1) It all depends on what you plan to do with those machines.
(2) Reead BCYL
(3) Should have no problems at all
