Which one?

Gotta do a budget build, Gigabyte DS3L or MSI neo2FR? Doesn't want the "E" version of the Gigabyte.

Well, what will you use this budget PC for? We need some background information if anyone can help you. I have a budget build in mind that'll draw you back $450 and it would be good for everyday use with a bit of light gaming. However, I don't know if it'll fit what you're looking for.

The guy is a light to medium gamer and wants to learn how to overclock. We've pretty much decided on everything else, E7200, 2 gig of Ballistix, 9600 GT. I've not done a build with either board, but I like the way the MSI handles overclocking from what I've read. If the Abit IP35-e were still available there would be no question.

I've used the DS3L and it was excellent. Everything I've read puts it on par with the IP35-e or slightly better because of the better capacitors it uses. Nothing but good things to say about it here.

On another note, why doesn't he want the E version? It's the exact same with new energy saving options.

Yeah, I've heard the DS3L is an amazing overclocker for the price and I haven't heard much about the MSI board or any MSI boards for that matter; not since the 965 Platinum or whatever. Between the two I'd definitely go for the DS3L as it's a proven overclocker. I have the DS3R which isn't much better than the DS3L and I have my Q6600 @ 3.2 and I could probably go further if it wasn't for my RAM.

I have the DS3L (in my sig) with an E2160 on it and it rocks!

Supposedly, the 'E' doesn't overclock as well. Just what the custumer said, haven't had time to research it.

The "E" does clock the same. "E" is for Energy saver thats new to these boards. It's the same board with upgrades and some software added. You can disable them in bios if you choose.

There are alot of DS3L users on this forum so they're probably best to comment on this board. However, I would give the nod to the MSI simply because it is a very solid board from what I've read (a few Neo 2 FR users here also) and I am very impressed with MSI's support and prompt BIOS updates when needed. Also you might want to consider the Abit IP35/E.
