Which one would you pick? SB Live! Value 4.1 or Hercules Muse 5.1 DVD sound card? With the Hercules 5.1 card can I use Three 2.1 speaker setups that I have for 5.1 sound instead of buying a 5.1 speaker set?

I have free access to both cards. Need my last question answered(This one is about the Hercules Card). Thank You

i have a creative sblive value (3 of them actually) the software that comes ith them is or maybe was very buggy but as i quit using anything but the drivers i never have problems anymore.the sound is great and i have used 2 2.1 setups on it fine(not three like you asked)

i would recommend the live

The Muse (and it's variants) are based out of the CMI8738. It's the same sound processor found on many on-board audio solutions. The Muse itself is a pretty good card. I've got two of my own, plus one clone from Pine. As good as it is, it's NOT superior to the SBLive. Don't listen to anti-Creative zealots. There's nothing wrong with the SBLive. It's definitely better than any CMI8738 sound card out there, albeit slightly more expensive.

If you really like the Muse XL though, consider the many 5.1/6.1 versions from Pine, Mad Dog, Philips, etc.. These cards are all essentially IDENTICAL to the Muse and use the same drivers. Many of these can be found for under $10.

Here's an article directly comparing the Herc Muse to the SBLive

You guys do realize he said he could get it for free, right? Why suggest the Santa Cruz and such?
