which one would you overclock?

If they are both S754, then the 3400. If the 3000 is a S939, then that, though more for the mobo than for the top speed. If you are really serious about trying to OC get a 3200 (Venice or Winchester).

I guess I have to say 3000+ because of where I am sitting now..

Price also..

3400 is S754 as well.. :thumbsdown: Price is decent, but why get 754 when you are stuck with it..

939 offers dual channel and allows you to throw an X2 in there as well..

You can't beat that..

The only downside to the 3000+ is my HTT gets so high my board flakes out.. Some are able to reach higher than others..

there is no 3400 on a socket 939. So if you already have the mobo, and the chips only the 3000 will work

Actually there was a 3400 socket 939 chip. It was only made in very limited quantities. It's exactly the same as a 3500 except its HyperTransport is limited to 800mhz (4x LTD).

If the 3000's a winchester, I'd try overclocking that assuming your board can handle the higher FSB.

What's yoru motherboard?

Not correct! There is a 939 3400+, its a newcastle and runs at 2.2ghz, the only difference from it and the 3500+ newcastle is it runs 800fsb instead of 1000fsb. It's a fairly rare OEM chip (can't buy it retail) but does exist. And overclocking vs. the 3000+ will depend on luck of the draw, if you get a good 3000+ it will clock better than the 3400+. but if you get a bad one the 3400+ will clock higher.

I would have to say 3000+ as well since I have shown my Neo2 board capable of 353 HTT (no mods ever done on the NB chipset and one of the earlty NOV 04 boards......It would be ripe for a Venice chip....

The 3000 is the best overclocker IMO.

Reasons
1) You don't talk about fight club
2) Leaves enough money to upgrade PSU/Mobo/Memory which will help you OC more than one wimpy multiplier.
3) You can use a S939 for the 3000.

Different boardmakers call it different names:D I have fallen into the habit of calling it FSB because thats how the utilities that came with my Asus board display it. HTT x HTT multi = FSB

On the AV8, Asus calls HTT (CPU - FSB)

*edit* I wish boardmakers would standardize their terminology. Just look at ram dividers, On my board there called "Max memory clock" and the settings are DDR400, DDR333, DDR266 ect... On other boards I've seen them called many different names and with settings DDR200, DDR166 etc... or just 200,166,133 or as ratios 1:1,6:5,3:2 etc.. I've even seen them label .83,.66,.50,etc...
