Which one? VW GTI 337 or 3.2 24v GTi

I went to the dealer today, I can order either. Which engine would you get? I'm leaning towards the 3.2, I'd like a V6. As for price, MSRP is what they're getting and I think the 337 will be less, but I'm not 100% sure cuz of limited availability.

Well I seem to remember that they aren't bringing very many 337's over, so it seems unlikely that you'd get one (el337?🙂) It's a really sweet car tho, and I'd take it over the VR6. Best handling VW since the original GTI, or maybe the Corrado. And great for mods! Altho I almost think I'd like to keep that car stock, since it's a limited production run. If you want to mod, buy a regular 1.8T GTI.

I would throw my 77 Scirocco into that statement. I really miss it.🙁

Edit - I kain't speel.

Dude, I would get the 337....just part of that limited edition factor. That mated with a different chip ($300) will give it 210hp and 240ft.lbs. of torque. Plus with the six speed tranny man....WOOHOO that would be a fun bastard to drive.

I'm not too sure of that, they were quick to want a deposit.

Hmmm, well I guess it's possible for you to get one. But I just looked it up and they are only bringing 1,500 stateside. I'd get it if I were you, if you have the chance.

agreed.

3.2? Do you mean 2.8 V6? As for the anniversary, well, if you can secure one for yourself, by all means go for it. That car will be one of the most desirable cars VW has put out since the demise of the Corrados. With only 1500 being allocated to the states though, your chances of getting one will be very difficult, and I would expect to pay a minimum of $1000 OVER MSRP.

<<3.2? Do you mean 2.8 V6?>> YES

According to N8Magic, I'm wrong, the new motor is 2.8 w/201hp. The 337 seems real cool to own, but the more I think about it... I want leather and a moonroof. The 337 comes in one color(reflex silver) with a crappy cloth interior. I think the only option is a 6 cd changer.

Nope, the new motor is 3.2 w/201hp. The 337 seems real cool to own, but the more I think about it... I want leather and a moonroof. The 337 comes in one color(reflex silver) with a crappy cloth interior. I think the only option is a 6 cd changer.

WRONG.

The new 24v VR6 in the 2002 GTI is a 2.8L narrow-V 6 cylinder. The only difference between it and the older (<= 2001 GTI) 12v VR6 is the number of valves per cylinder.

The Phaeton is getting a 3.2L VR6 which has 241hp. The 24v 2.8L VR6 has 201hp. Rumor has it that the new MkV Golf/GTI/Jetta will be getting this 3.2L engine when they come out in ~2005, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

<< N8Magic,
Thanks for the info, I guess I'll be looking to get the 337.
>>

No problem.

If I was to get the 337 edition, i'd have to change the badge to 1337 though. 😀😛

<< N8Magic, did you pick up the new TDI yet? >>

Yes I did, and it is fantastic! No pics until next week, as my parents are borrowing my digicam while they're on their vacation.

<< Says you! 😛 >>

Pardon me madam, but wouldn't you be the resident VW fangirl?

(I know you're not a woman. 😀)

Sorry to sound stupid here, but what's a 337? Does anyone have any pictures and info on it please? Just wondering 🙂

Thanks

Wow that is nice looking, those rims are sweet. I would definitely say get that one. Nice rims, recaro buckets, 6-speed, and stainless steel exhuast.
