Altima
Audi

The Altima with some options selected came out to be about 25k
The Audi with some options came out to be 26k

With that said, would you choose to have the Audi for style/looks etc or the Altimas better engine?

I am also going from a accord v6, i find it to have great amount of power and torque for me. do you think that the audi's 1.8T engine will be too big of a decrease in performance from that of the accords?

what do you guys think?

Do you even need to ask with all the Nissan fanboys around here? 😛

That being said, personally, I would pick the Altima. The interior on the Audi may be a bit nicer, but the throaty growl of that 3.5L V6 would seal the deal with me.

Cheaper, faster, bigger ----> Go with the Altima!

Audi ... the 1.8T is better, smaller engine but it comes with turbo. Although not much power as a stock but with small upgrades, you can beat altima anytime ..

And don't forget Audi's top notch service plan, quality, interior materials, and QUATTRO.

FWD Audi?? That's like getting a pizza with no cheese and sauce!!!!! An Audi isn't an Audi if it doesn't have QUATTRO.

I suggest you check yoself b4 yo wreck yoself!😀

Do you need space? If so, go for the Altima
Do you care about image? If so, go for the Audi
Do you have a craving for speed? Go for the Altima

Personally if you don't need the space then go for a '01 A4..I don't like the new '02 A4s..they look fugly.

Also how the hell is the Audi only $1k more than the Altima (both similarly equipped)?????? Where do you live? Over here its like a friggin $10k difference!

Hmmmm . . . I drive a 2001 Maxima SE, but if I had it to do over again I would probably have gone for an A4. From a price/performance standpoint the Altima is the clear winner, but if you don't care about the extra interior room of the Altima, the A4 beats it in elegance and, probably, handling. Both are awesome cars, and the Nissan probably wins in terms of reliability and ultimate performance, but I would still take the A4.

I think it's worth noting (since some posters keep mentioning the "QUALITY" of the A4) that while its interior certainly has nicer fit and finish, it will likely require more maintenance, and more expensive maintenance, over its lifetime than any Nissan. Buying a German car over a Japanese one based on its reliability is a foolish play; that said, Audi offers reasonable reliability and a wonderful driving experience.

Yeah, but $10,000 Canadian is like $5 over here😉

You forgot to add:

If you crave QUALITY, dealer service, prepaid scheduled maintenance -- Go for the Audi 🙂

wow you guys sure man handled this thread.... 😀

thanks for the link NFS, i'll look over it.

i wanted the gap between the cars to be as close as possible to make a fair decision. one thing that ticks me off is that german parts cost a lot more. i remember getting a part for my sisters VW and it cost like 97 bux, and for my accord the similar part was i think 28. =\

i won't be fixing up the car to make it a ricer or anything, just leaving it stock will suffice me. 🙂

Please DO NOT get a FWD Audi. Spend the $$$ for QUATTRO.

Get the audi. It's just so much more elegant then an altima. I've sat inside both and the altima is a nice car and all but after you sit in the A4, you'll be nothing but dissapointed with the Altima for all the time you have it. Besides the 1.8T definantly still has enough pep to do what you want it to do.

Now the Nissan is POS? Come on!

The prepaid maintenance is nice, but really, if you can afford a $25,000 car, you can afford the oil changes. Oh, and personally, I would rate Nissan quality higher than Audi. My roomies mom had an A4 a couple of years back that she had to RETURN under the lemon law it was so bad.

Well, the first 4 years of service and maintenance is paid for....anything else?😀 After 4 years, it's time for a new car for most Americans.

I wouldn't rate Nissan's build quality above Audi...it's not even close.

Also, one car does not represent the whole batch...DUH😉 My friend's uncle's brother's sister's great aunt had a BMW die on the side of the road she drove it home.

WTF????😕:Q😱

If you wanna actually be able accelerate: get the Altima
If you're more into luxury and great quality of interior materials: get the Audi

altima - turbo lag on small engines isnt always fun

btw im not a fanboy 🙂

the altima is the only nissan i like; and i cant afford the 3.5

I think the Altima has better reliability.

Audi has improved in quality over the years but still doesn't match the quality of Toyota, Honda, Nissan.

Or if you can wait, get the Infiniti G35. 🙂

I couldn't fit in an A4. I bought the Altima SE 3.5 back in November, and I love it. I have yet to have any problems with this car, and I don't think the interior is ass, as was previously stated in this thread 😉 Back earlier this year during our ice storm I wouldn't have minded having the awd of the Audi, but my Altima never slipped on the ice once (though I was very careful). I like the Altima a lot, and I'm sure you would like it too. Admit it, you guys, they're both great cars, don't put down the Altima so badly here, huh? 🙂

<< altima - turbo lag on small engines isnt always fun >>

Show's what you know about the 1.8t. It's virtually "lagless". It makes it's torque peak at about 1950 RPM's, nearly half what the Altima does. That makes for a very driveable car.

As for which one - well that really depends on use. If you have very, very, little need for a back seat, then go for the A4. If you haul people around in the back seat on a regular basis, then I'd say go with the Altima. Even with the redesign, the A4's have a virtually non-existant back seat. It's great for two people, but any more than that, and you have a set of knees digging into the front seat passengers.

<< I wouldn't rate Nissan's build quality above Audi...it's not even close. >>

Are you sure? - #1 Entry Midsize car in Initial Quality - Nissan Altima.

Audis are well known for the quality of their interiors but I think overall Nissan's build quality and especially reliability are as good if not better than Audi's.

Overall I would go with the A4 over the Altima, though. It's just a different class of car, and the Audi would have the "little things" you would come to appreciate over time. The Altima's VQ engine is damn sweet but the 1.8T is also an award-winner. Both cars have a lot to offer but the Audi would be my choice.
