I am upgrading my system and need an new video card. I am torn between the original Geforce 3 for about $230 or the Geforce 3 Ti200 for about $180.00 The brand I am thinking of getting is the Gainward Cardexpert
Is it worth spending the extra $50 for an older card ?

System
WindowsXP
512 ram
P3 850

Thanks to all

Older doesn't necessarily mean worse, at least in this case.. HOWEVER, the Ti 200 is highly overclockable in most cases and performs quite well vs. the regular GF3, even when not overclocked.. I'd save the $50.00 and go with the Ti 200 -- you won't be disappointed..

You might want to check-out the original GeForce3.

"However, we should point out that NVidia started to supply vendors different chips for Ti200 and Ti500 solutions. When GeForce3 Ti lines were announced, manufacturers started to sell their GeForce3 based boards as GF3 Ti200 cards. They had a good potential on overclocking up to 200 MHz and more.
We believe that the graphics processors are marked as "Ti200" because of their failure to run at necessary clockings for Ti500, it means that the potential of the "new" GeForce3 Ti200 may be a bit lower than that of the "original" one. However, the new design of the board still should help to increase the frequency."

Another vote for the Ti200. You only gain about 10% performance improvement by moving to the standard GF3. That is benchmark babble. You will be hardpressed to notice a difference between the two. Even then, as long as the two are equipped with the same rated memory you can overclock the Ti200 to the same speed as the GF3 or even higher.
