Which one to buy?

Alright, I have come to a small problem ... my system is being seriously slowed down by my current Rage XL graphics card and I am in the market for a new one. I have already decided that I am going to be going with ATi again since I had no troubles last time around ... so please no "go with nVidia they are the best!" or anything like that. What I want to know is which card is worth the money right now. Where I am, and I have to buy local (don't ask), these are the prices ...

Radeon 7500 - $100
Radeon 8500LE - $150
Radeon 8500 128DDR - $200
Radeon 9000pro - $150

Out of these, or any of ATi's other offerings, would be worth the money? My budget is around $200 right now so keep it right there. Thanks a lot!

damn that sux. get a PO BOX or something 😛

well then i guess i should ask.. what kinda games u will be playing? is that 8500le 64mb or 128mb?

Hi,

For us in order to tell you what is the best deal we need to know the set up of your computer and also what do you use the computer for. With that information I will cast my suggestion.

I hope this helps!

the only ATI's I'd buy are AIW's or the 9700

I've looked into them, but the problem is that the cheapest one around here is $200 for the PNY 4200Ti with only 64MB DDR RAM. The Visiontek with 128MB RAM is $230 and I could just go up to the 4400 for another $20. ATi just seems to give me more "bang for the buck".

I know you didn't want any nVidia suggestions, but every one of my friends with a Radeon from the 7500/8500/9000 series had some kind of compatibility problem with some games. My one friend still can't press escape in Half-Life without crashing his computer. Drivers are not their strong point, neither is customer service.

The $230 ti4200 and $250 ti4400 at Best Buy are really excellent deals, both with lifetime warranties without calling to Canada for ATI's BS.

But if you really want an ATI solution...umm...I guess the 8500DV 64mb at Best Buy for $200.

Well, I guess I could try and get a loan from my parents for the extra $50 - $100 that I would need to get an nVidia card. I don't know though, but oh well. Guess I'll wait for the money to come and then go and get teh card that I like the best ... any more suggestions?

Keep in mind you can overclock these cards, too. I got the Ti4200 at BB up to Ti4400 speeds, and the 4400 I got yesterday to 4600 speeds.

u really need to read the original post again.

EDIT - jeebuz! actually... seems a lot of u guys need to read the original post more clearly. anyway, i think the 128mb radeon 8500le is a good choice for u. btw, i have 2 radeon 8500's and have not had any sort of compatibility issue.

Yeah, but that's okay ... I should probably keep my options open right now. It does seem like the 8500LE is one good bargain right now since OCing isn't in my needs at the moment.

Hi,

I have a Radeon 8500LE 64MB and it works great. Those people that have problems in their games with the Radeon cards is because they haven't downloaded the latest drivers from ATI. I would strongly suggest you to go with the Radeon 8500LE. This card is great and will do the job without problem. When you buy a card make sure that the manufacturer of the video card is ATI, don't buy video cards that are manufactured by other companies and say "Powered by ATI". The cards that are manufactured by other companies don't seem to perform as good as the manufactured by ATI.

Do you want this card for gaming, or 2D?

I hope this helps!

Thanks, I am thinking of getting the 128MB DDR version of the Radeon 8500LE that is made by ATi. I have been eyeing that card for a while now ... and hopefully will be getting it soon. I have heard that the driver support is incredibly better than it used to be ... so I am definately looking forward to getting a new card into this beast!
