Guys...I need some help to decide...
The delta between a 3090 and a 3080 ti is only $150.
Which card should I buy?
My heart keeps saying 3090 since it doubles the memories.
My head keeps thinking it is $150 poorer for me.
Performance wise it is about the same.
I do a lot of flight sim stuff if that helps to decide.

Some factors to help you decide:

What are the prices? How much is the difference in %?

How long do you usually keep a card? Will the 24GB even be relevant if you'll be playing on a sub-4K monitor and having it for 2 years?

Flight sim and VR is an argument for more memory.

How do you typically get rid of a card? The 3090 might be harder to sell, or at least hand down to friends, because it requires more power compared to a typical desktop PC PSU.

neither.

Think about the rtx 3080-12gb*. Out performs the 3080ti and runs about $200 cheaper then the rtx3080ti.
*my spot price check was $780 new

of course, if you do not care about rtx features, swap to a 6800xt**:
and save another $100.
**my spot price check was $689 new

Lastly, the 16gb of vram on the 6800xt is useful in certain areas of MSFS. In short, for non-rtx software like microsoft flight sim this is likely your best choice.

3090 for $1000.00
3080 ti for $850.00

Not new in the box they are both opened box sale.
The 3080 12gb costs more than aforementioned cards. LOL.
I also do VR.
Note that VR in msfs2020 though rarely happens (depends on certain sceneries/flight models etc) but it can eat 12gb for lunch at no time.

3080 ti for $850.00

Used 3090 is a $800 card, with the price dropping fast. They have a reputation of a high failure rate.

video talking about the issue and how to fix it:

guide online on how to fix it:

You should factor the $ of the kit to fix the 3090 and the time you spend installing it into your purchase price.

@Leeea You didn't ask him what country he's from.

He might have issues finding a 3080 12GB.

If your from the US, id get a 3080 12GB instead of both of them, for cheaper then what you listed.
The ASUS one would be my second pick, first pick being an eVGA because eVGA has the best customer support.

If your a miner, or you want to mine on the card, a 3090 is no brainer.
no LHR, and out performs anything out current in any crypto algo.

But if your just a gamer, the 3080 12GB, should be your first choice, unless its not available in the country your at, or they are scalping the prices heavily on it.

It sounds like 3080 ti at the price of $830 still is a sweet spot card over the 3080 @ $798?
I prefer the Asus version over the eVGA one simply ir runs a bit cooler in my small HTPC case.

I’d go 3090 for the 24GB. You probably won’t need 24, but I could see 12 on the TI becoming an issue. Far Cry 6 already struggles with 11 IIRC.

Eventualy, the DirectX DirectMemory feature (or whatever they are calling it today) will gain widespread use and every GB on the video cards will be extremely valuable realestate in most new games. Now, we don't know if there will be a marked difference in total game performance between 16 and 24GB cards, but, unless you are doing something professionally that requires massive amounts of VRAM TODAY, the 24GB in the 3090 is likely completely irrelevant. I would certainly choose the 16GB 6800XT over the 3080 12GB at present prices.

Since you do VR, the 3090 is actually worth it for that particular use case. VR games on high resolution headsets can use over 20GB depending on the game. As others said, you can get a used 3090 for fairly reasonable prices now. If crypto mining comes back, the 3090 is not LHR and would also hold its value better over time.

What aib's are your cross comparing?
If its the same maker, then yes the Ti version is definitely better.

However if you ever intend to on getting a ryzen processor with SAM, a 6800XT is a lot cheaper, but its slower then the two in a lot of titles.

Personally tho i would wait and see what a 4090 costs.
If your willing to invest 1000 right now on the GPU, a 4090 will probably be a bit more, but completely smash all the videocards you listed.

But if you must have the card now, @ 170 dollar premium, id probably go with a 3090 just because i am a primary gamer, but at the same time a secondary miner.

Meaning i retire all my cards to the mine's and have them slave away until they recover the cost i paid for them, or they become very inefficient in mining like my 1070 is, which then i turn into a productivity card with light 3d applications only.

Wait a minute!
Or wait for another year. Is that what I've been hearing?
I'm not wasting thousands of dollars worth of hardware sitting around waiting for the next generation of gpu that perhaps never delivers on time and @ MSRP.
In case you wondered. I chose to keep the 3080ti @830+tax and two free games (via NVIDIA promo) as the 3090 ran a bit too warm for my taste.
Mod please lock and close this thread. TY

The 4090 is not going to take another year to arrive. At most 6 months. But enjoy the card.
well to be fair 6 months is next year....

But im hearing the 4090 aka the new titan, as they might rebrand it, will launch Q4 which is in 3 months...
But there will most likely be supply issues at launch, so realistically, unless you get lucky, id expect your time frame to be correct.
