I was wondering if you were ever inspired to grab a pick ax and start digging in the back yard. 😱
Do I find diamonds?
Not a backyard mine, but over the years, I helped build a couple of REAL mines...including assembling the shovels, drills, haul trucks, and draglines...built the crusher plant in another.
If you dig a mine in your back yard...what do you do with the spoils/overburden?
That's a LOT of dirt to get rid of.
Or stick every 3500 cubic meters of dirt inside a single 2 cubic meter chest. You build castles and life sized replicas of random Star Wars stuff.

I've always thought about it. Imagine mining out a few floors under your house to increase your sq footage. I saw a show where some guy did this and he had an elevator to bring you to each floor, each one housed a different "hobby" he had. One of the floors had a replica of an old fashioned street corner. It was pretty cool.
When I was really little, I was intrigued about the layers of the earths crust.
Determined to penetrate the first layer of topsoil and find bedrock, I started digging in my back yard near a tree.
After my mom drove her tractor into the hole accidentally, she yelled at me and asked me what the fuck I was doing.
I told her I wanted to dig through the earth's crust to find bedrock.
She told me I didn't dig far enough, and to go fill the hole.

This sounds awesome.
I would love to do something like that, except for the amount of work and dealing with permits ....
If I ever become insanely wealthy, I'll build a nice big earth sheltered home, in the mean time, 1 basement is enough for me 🙂
No need for permits, just soundproof the walls and bring out the dirt and rock in small amounts and no one will even know 😀This sounds awesome.

Hide the entrance and you'll be off scott-free even if you sell.No need for permits, just soundproof the walls and bring out the dirt and rock in small amounts and no one will even know 😀
