What are you talking about? If a 17 year really old wants to have sex, there is nothing that you can do as a parent.
The point is not about the 17 year old having sex, it's about the 17 year old's mother talking about how conservative and religious she is, but doesn't even have the ability to raise her own daughter to follow these simple morals and values. If she can't run she family proper, how do you expect this woman to run the most powerful country in the world. She might as well go teach at Sunday school.

By your logic, if she becomes the POTUS all her subordinates can tell her to fuck off. Why bother following any of the laws and regulations?

you did everything your parents told you to and never rebelled at all?

isn't pretty much known fact that children of strict/religious parents tend to rebel a bit more than kids that don't have that kind of family?

your logic is pretty fucked up too.

isn't this thread in the wrong forum anyway?

Yeah, the fact that Sarah Palin and her family believe in loving and supporting the daughter, the new grandchild, and the future son-in-law instead of forcing them into an abortion or kicking them out of the house truly shows what bad conservatives they are.

Please, keep attacking along these lines those on the left. They're great if you're looking to get McCain elected. Even Obama smartly realizes this with this classy statement. It's a shame that some of his backers can't show the same.

Mr. Obama, campaigning here, also noted that his own mother was 18 when she gave birth to him.

?People?s families are off limits,? he said. ?People?s children are especially off limits. This shouldn?t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin?s performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. ?

?I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories,? he added. ?That shouldn?t be a topic in our politics.?

He vehemently pushed back against an unnamed McCain aide suggesting his campaign had any ties to the blogs that were spreading rumors before the news broke, saying he was ?offended? by that and if any of his staff was involved in spreading the issue, ?they?d be fired.?

HIV in Alaska? The chances of contracting HIV from sexual intercourse between two heterosexual non-IV drug users in Alaska is about the same as the chances of getting attacked by a shark on land. You'd be better to worry about bears or something.
Herpes? HPV? Crabs? Warts? Syphillis? Gonorrhea?

You forgot trichomoniasis, chlamydia, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.

I suppose we could throw in thrush and bacterial vaginosis which can be caused by sex too. Then we could mention that no getting treated could lead to pelvic inflammatory disease.

In fact wiki has even more than I could think of - wiki stds

Growing up with being so privileged and blessed to be given a lot of information on, on both sides of the subject -- creationism and evolution. It's been a healthy foundation for me. But don't be afraid of information and let kids debate both sides."

You were saying?

And yet she doesn't support teaching of abstinence and sex ed...

I see no double standards here at all /sarcasm

Why does everyone bring up Clinton having relations with his intern? Two consenting adults had sex, big whoop.

This story has now surpassed the "Obama is a terrorist" and the "McCain isn't eligible to be president" stories as the biggest non-story of this election.

I love how everyone expects their politicians to be clean-cut angels with perfect families.

Have her lobotomized and put her away in a mental institute. That would keep her from fooling around. That's what the Kennedy's would do.

I think the important thing to focus on here is how stupid jpeyton and his buddies look.

The VP nominee lying about having a child would have been bad IMO. It wouldn't affect my vote, but it'd make me wonder wtf McCain's campaign was thinking with the vetting.

The VP nominee's daughter getting pregnant at 17 is not a political issue, and it's sickening that people try to make it one.

Are you serious? You think someones sexual preferences have anything to do with what they would do in event of a nuclear missile strike?

Well you gotta admit that information is one sure way to squash any rumors.

She said there was values in teaching alternatives if they are brought up in class. She didn't say she'd make Creationism part of the curriculum. Two different things and completely reasonable given how Creationism is in the news nowadays.

I don't believe in pushing Creationism in public schools and her stance isn't a concern for me at all. Now bring up Bobby Jindal, and I think that is a concern.

"Teaching" implies supporting the argument.

Don't misrepresent this debate. This situation has nothing to do with consentual sex (I don't care if it's between legal adults or 17 year olds, consentual sex is consentual sex, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it). The issue here is that Palin has supported a position of abstinence-only education when it comes to sex ed. This situation shows the failings of that course of education in Palin's own family. Put simply, Palin supports policies that are proven failures. I don't care that her daughter got laid or got knocked up, but it does seem to indicate that perhaps the abstinence-only mold of sex ed is ineffective in preventing teenage pregnancy, don't you think?

I think this is good. Not only does this show an example of keeping an unplanned child (conservative vote), it also helps voters relate to a family where a young daughter has to go through an accidental pregnancy at a young age (liberal vote). Win/win situation!

I just feel bad that something as normal as this has to end up on the news. Poor girl.
