An 11-year-old Ohio girl was allegedly shot by her neighbor after he became upset with a group of children playing on the front yard of his home, Fox 8 reports.
Charles DuBose, 55, was arrested after police said he shot the girl, Ivhan`e Merritt, at 10:40 p.m. Friday outside his home in Cleveland.
Shamarra Hall, 10, told the station that she and Merritt were among a group of children playing on the man's front lawn when the incident occurred. Hall said DuBose became upset when one of the children walked across a part of his lawn and another bumped into his car.
"We started running and then that's when my friend Ivhan`e goes 'I got shot, I got shot,' and we thought she was playing until she fell," Hall told the station.
The girl's mother, Aquadea Merritt, said the bullet grazed her daughter's liver.
"Everything else is fine, she's doing fine, she's up walking, talking," Merritt said.
The girl is reportedly expected to be released from the hospital soon.

when i was a kid we were playing hide and seek and i was in someone's backyard and htis guy came out of the house all pissed off and yelled at me. i was like 11 years old or so, and i was scared as shit, and he open palmed smacked me in the temple. i was kinda stunned and just ran off.

i ran home and cried to my mom and told her the situation and we went and talked to him and he was just pissed because kids ruining his plants and stuff, and had a shitty day at work and was just stressed out. he apologized like shit and pleaded to not press charges and that he would throw all of the kids a pizza party, obviously with other adults around.

so in the end i got hit in the head but we all had a big pizza party. was odd but fuck it back then pizza parties were the shit. couldn't imagine the shit storm that guy would have been in now a days if that happened.
 
He'll probably get prosecuted as a hate crime because the kids were black and get the chair. When in reality, the fucking little hoodlums should play on their own fucking yard.

When I was a kid I would've kept my mouth shut about it. My mother probably would've finished what the old man started.
 
Obviously shooting children is wrong, and the man needs to be behind bars for attempted murder.

That being said, the lack of respect children have for another persons property is non existent now days.
 
10 year old kids in my yard at nearly 11:00 at night? I understand his anger, but kids are kids. He should have shot...I mean discussed the situation with...the mother.
 
I'm sure their story is they were just innocently playing. More likely they were being little fucksticks.

Still...probably shouldn't be shooting at kids in this situation. Run out there with a bat or something...that's much more curmudgeon'ish anyway.

no the old man threw us a party not my mom.

and back in the day in our neighborhood everyone's kids ran all over everyone's yard playing hide and seek, not a big deal at all (except to this guy on that day).
 
10:40 p.m. on a Friday? 10yo? Shouldn't they be in bed? Bad parenting...

Anyway, here in South Africa most of us have 1.8meter or higher metal palisade fences, or 1.8meter or higher brick walls (these are often topped by razor wire or electric fences) around our yards to keep the criminals at bay. No uninvited kids playing on our front lawns lol.

Well, here's a clue. It's almost 11 pm; you should be at home, in bed, not fucking around in people's lawns. And IF you're still out, screwing around in the street, and some old man yells at you? GET THE FUCK OFF HIS LAWN.

Obviously shooting the kids was NOT the right course of action, but I'd imagine calling the cops for "kids screwing around in my yard" wouldn't get much attention either.

Man just needs to say he mistook the 11 year old girl for Lebron James and you wouldn't find a person in Cleveland that would convict.

Staying with family in Cape Town, their house had a fence like that. Gotta tell you - living like that would make me feel like I'm under siege, not safe.

Beautiful country, but a really fucked up crime problem.
