MEGAHALEMS. I have a friend who has a coolit. It doesn't work well when OC'ed with HT, exceed the max wattage of the cooler. If there is any chance this is a newer model with a larger wattage, I could be wrong, but I KNOW the megahalems will do a 920@ 4 ghz.

Prolimatech Megahalems

When you are ready for watercoolling. Go all out on the real watercooling setup.

Thanks, I have never done any "real" water cooling. Is there a guide or part list out there for what I would need?

The Megahalems is a very good cooler. With stock fans the Noctua NH-D14 cools about as well as a Megahalems with a San Ace 9G1212H1011, but with half the noise. Put that same San Ace on the D14 and you get better performance than the San Ace on the Megahalems.

Put two San Aces on the D14 and get still better performance. Put two San Aces on a Megahalems and you get about 1c better cooling with a lot more noise.

Bottom line: the D14 is just a better cooler. The mount is better too.

The mount is great. Took me a little while to get used to it, but now I lub it.

The best part is that, even with two San Ace H101/H1011s on it, you've still got room for a 120x25mm fan in the middle. There are plenty of interesting options there, though most of them are a bit noisy.

That being said, the CoGage Arrow can't be counted out if we're throwing the mighty nh-d14 into the mix.

When I tested, I found that with the H101's on push/pull, any fans in the middle just got in the way. At best they added nothing.

Interesting. I wonder if the Arrow exhibits the same results.

Well, I *would* be at that point if I could fit another fan onto my nh-d14 in the push position, but my RAM is in the way.

Besides, water kits that would consistently beat a monster HSF like that are a bit too expensive for my tastes.

Why not consider more cheaper alternatives?

Scythe Mugen 2 for $34:
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=...pes-CPU-Cooler

Cogage True Spirit will let you do 4.0ghz and it's $36 with the fan:
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=...el-Socket-1366

Or you can get the Venomous X (= Megahalems performance) with the fan with free shipping for $63: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=...-RT-CPU-Cooler

If you are going to spend $60 alone on the Megahalems + 2 fans, might as well get the Noctua NH-D14 which is an even better performer: http://www.svc.com/nh-d14.html

but if you taken that much effort, then you obviously made this area into a hobby.

Time to upgrade your toys as well. :D

The Arrow has a larger space between the towers. It would be worth testing. One thing in the middle improves cooling by 0.5c: a shroud.

Aww, c'mon. Noctua tells us you should be able to mount your push fan higher up on the fin stack and clear your RAM.

Maybe someday I'll make a shroud for my nh-d14 and see how it works out, though with my configuration, it might not be necessary, since I'm using center+pull rather than push + pull.

I thought that too, but apparently, when you have RAM with tall heatspreaders moved out to slots 3 and 4, they get in the way of a 120mm fan, no matter what you do.

Weird. I can set my fans fairly high up. Those clips are fascinating.

After reading the review, I really considering getting one of these. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/07/21/coolit_eco_c240_performance_review

Seems like it will do i7 w/HT @4ghz with ease

"For our stock testing our i7 920 will be kept at 2.66 GHz with a minimal 1.25v. For overclocked CPU testing we will be running our i7 920 at 3.6GHz with 1.45v."

Are they serious? 3.6 isn't high enough to really test the cooler and why would they need 1.45v to only do 3.6? Strange. I would like to see a 4.2-4.3Ghz test with HT compared with the high end air coolers.

I picked up an H50 to try out. It won't be here until tomorrow. I was leaning towards getting one of the giant air coolers but I wasn't sure if it would fit with my ram (ocz reaper).
