Go for 850E and PC1066 if u can afford it. Although, it is kind of pricy, and its difficult to justify getting it over 845g and DDR333 which while it would be slower (about 10%) and it would be somewhat noticeable, its not as big as it is iof u went DDR266 with a older DDR Chipset. LMK if u'd like some more advice:)

ah the question for the ages...I just priced out two P4 upgrades (one Rambus and one DDR) and I think the difference was almost 100 bucks. Surprisingly the main price difference was in the price of the motherboards.

Edit: should add I was looking at PC800 ram that could be run at near 1066 speed. If you go from PC800 to PC1066 the price difference skyrockets to about $250.

As of now, AGP 8x is just hype and not really needed yet. The performance from AGP 1x-2x-4x is minimal and it will be even less for going to 8x. Now this doesn't mean that sometime in the future it will become necessary with the larger textures being pushed through the pipes, but right now the bandwidth for AGP 4x is plenty. Plus, if you get a mobo with AGP 8x, then the only way you can benefit is by actually buying a vid card with AGP 8x and I don't see any of them available right now.

You mean which is a bigger hype and/or waste of money? Tough call :D :p :)

AGP 8X is by no means necessary. It's just marketing.

PC1066 provides a marginal improvement over PC800 but, relative to price/performance ... isn't worth the dough.
