Which of these would you get: Asus A7V266-E, Epox 8KHA+, or the Abit KR7A-RAID?

I am building a new PC and I am considering getting one of these boards. I will have a RAID array and I am willing to buy a separate card for the Epox board. I just want the best performing of these. I also want to know if it will be worth it to wait for the nForce boards to come out.

They all perform about the same. So for best bang for the buck, the Epox. The Abit looks to be the best of the three if price is not an issue. The Asus will be good but also without the question the most expensive.

TazExprez: I just built my new comp using the Asus a7v266-e this last wednesday night. I really like the asus so far but I haven't been able to do any testing because I had to leave my dorm to drive home for Thanksgiving. I'll be back there on Sunday night so I'll be working with it then. I know I read one review where the Asus performed better than the other kt266a boards it was compared against, but I forget what site that was at. I'll post my comp's results when I get back to college.

I used to have a Slot A raid configuration and recently got rid of it. I will be purchasing a KR7a-Raid shortly. I highly recommend the ABIT board for several reasons. 1. Integration is always better if the integrated part is the same as an addon (except the nforce graphics).... it is going to be easier to config, most likely cheaper considering you are buying less product, and a slight increase in speed
2. the raid chip on the abit board will support ata133 and drives over 137gb. this gives you a very slight performance increase if reading from your buffer and your drive supports ata133... im getting 2 d740x 40 gb maxtor drives
3. abit has always done well for me with stability, overclocking, and the softmenuIII

KR7A-RAID! It will pack quite an ocing punch, and will be cheaper than the A7V266-E, and will be worth every penny just like KG7-RAID was.!

Before you go with that Epox you may want to check out the Epox mobo forum over at AMDMB.com.

I would probably go with the Abit KR7A-RAID. That is because spec for spec, it would seem that the Abit board the better board. However I need a new board asap due to the fact that my current board is dying on me. Because of this factor, I am planning to go with the Asus because of its current reviews which show it to beat the Epox board, the asus reputation for stability and its name. Either one, I don't think you could lose with either board.

Actually I think i'm going to wait for the new epox board to come out. That's why the abit board looked so interesting with the ATA133 RAID setup. Now to buy two new hard drives that can take advantage of that speed.

ATA 133 isnt any faster than ATA 100 or ATA 66 btw

Not true, this is a certain potential with ATA133, and it can be seen in Maxtors 133 spec drive. Although it isent to much faster and is sometimes beatin by the IBM 60gxp, there are certain areas that ata133 excels in. For now its simply a marketing gimmik but with some time ATA133 will be tweakd and eventualy give substantial performance increase.

Before you buy any motherboard, make sure you are ready to read the manual, have some experience with building computers, properly ground yourself, and get an AMD approved PS. Heck, get your mobo pre-tested before it is shipped from one of the online stores.

Good luck!

BTW, The Epox 8KHA+ is an excellent board. Mine and 1000's of others when setup right, will run ROCK SOLID.

I went with the Epox 8KHA+ last Friday one great board,if you want RAID then there`s a new Epox coming out called 8KHA2 with RAID and ATA-133 support, anyway IMHO I think Asus are overpriced and don`t like Abit due to their high RMA returns.

Does anyone here think Abit has a high RMA rate? And if you do how do you know this and please show me the website that shows this if you have one? Thanks

I'd stick with my Shuttle AK31 v3.1 KT266A mobo, if I didn't already have a 10/100 nic and Audigy soundcard, then I would probably go for the Soyo K7V Dragon Plus!
