CardExpert GF4 mx440 for $275 or
CARDEXPERT (Gainward) Geforce 2 Titanium 64MB DDR FIREFOX XP GOLDENSAMPLE $241.00

I know that GF4 MX440s are faster than GF2 Ti s but what bout this "Golden Sample" stuff, that make much diff?
I know I need more ram too,Im just a newbie who hasnt lifted the case in 3 years and now cant play new games ;)

If theres little gaming difference I want the card with the best TV-out features and general versatility
Its NZ dollars so looks expensive hehe

They are very close to each other in terms of performance. Both cards overclock extemely well, you should use NVmax to take advantage of the extra performance. The Gainward Golden Sample usually has 4.5ns or 4.0ns ram chips, I have one clocked at 290/520. Maybe an upgrade for your cpu is in order, it will become a bottleneck for you gaming performance.

Thanks guys ,sounds like a tossup,Ill get the GF4 mx440 as that is a real good price here for those specs.

I know I need more ram and probably a faster HD too but I think my processor should hold out for a short while yet.

Will my cpu bottleneck a GF4 mx440?

Reason being Im thinking bout getting a 2nd hand GF2 mx or something until I can get my mits on a 2nd hand GF3 ti200 or a GF4 4200 when it launches. I can afford new stuff but I feel guilty spending money on new 3D cards which cost heaps and date so fast.

When I do upgrade my cpu Im looking at getting a P4 1.6a and running it at 2.1 just by bumping the FSB to 133. Or I might see how the new P4s are valuewise, like wise the new 0.13 micron AMD.

I suggest a Radeon LE or Visiontek Geforce2 GTS-V from newegg. Either can be had for about $50 shipped and would get you buy for a while until you upgrade your CPU. Either card will do OK in most games, and would be a closer match to your current CPU.

<< Neither buy a GeForce4 >>

He's got a PIII 450MHz, even with the GF2 Ti he will be completely and totally processor bottlenecked... what's he going to use a GF4 for when he woun't even be fully utilizing the power a GF2 Ti could offer.
I'td be a complete waste of money to get a GF4 with his current processor, even a GTS would be over-board with merely a PIII 450.

I'd say your much better off saving your money and getting a cheaper GF2 GTS-V or a Radeon LE, and upgrade your processor with the money left over.

Yes I know they will bottleneck but Im upgrading to a p4 at some stage ,sorry shoulda said.
In the meantime whats the best card for my cpu? A TNT2 Ultra or a GF2 MX of some sort?
I know little about computers and zero about 3d cards but I have found these ones on the net
and they seem to suit.

Best card for the money right now is a tossup between the GeForce 2 GTS V for $46 or the ATI DDR Radeon for $39 at Newegg...based on the specs you have. I'd add a slotket and maybe a speedy Celeron to you maching with a 256 mb RAM chip.

BUT really, just hold on for a while until you can get all the parts. Otherwise you won't see the benefit that much. A cheap video card will give a nice boost as will a simple processor upgrade.

Personally I'd say your definitely better off going with the Radeon LE or GF2 GTS-V and saving the rest of the money that would have been spent on the GF4 for your future P4 upgrade.

Your also running just 64 megs of PC100. System ram is many times the cheapest most effective upgrade you can do.
You do need a vid card no doubt, but search the forums and find at least another 64 meg chip to go with it.
look here. Not sure if their still for sale but their cheap.
