Developer jobs aren't for everyone. Most of the time, it's a job that's not mechanized and thus requires you to think quite often. If you like it then it's the best job there is, if you don't... well, not so much.
LMAO @ thinking software engineer = coding
Relational databases are a waning technology. The role of a DBA is going to be greatly minimized over the next 10 years. Not a field to get into, IMO.
General software developers can write their own ticket.
Sadly, I agree it is a dying field as things head SaaS. Get it?
Video game development pays less than other software development jobs, has much longer hours, and less job security. Studios regularly staff up at the start of a project then lay off people when the title ships. That's assuming an independent studio doesn't go bankrupt or a publisher-owned studio isn't shuttered to improve the corporate balance sheet.
Also, working on the development of a game like Fallout New Vegas would have been cool, but then you'd never get to enjoy it as a player. You'd be thoroughly sick of it from going over sections again and again during the development process.
So I'll stick with my current software development job.
Sadly, I agree it is a dying field as things head SaaS. Get it?
Please explain me the difference, I might have been misled for over a decade.
I hate computers so none of the above but if I had to pick a computer job it would probably be the person in the Asus RMA department that has the big sledgehammer that fixes the boards before returning them to customers!

You hate computers?! But the pic you posted of your rig some time back was one of the more killer setups I've seen in some time. Definitely didn't look like the rig of someone who "hates computers".![]()
Well there has been over $50k invested in a system that I've only seen a few pics of and every time I get promised delivery it gets postponed due a problem or failed compliance, etc.
Yes I do hate computers. They generally tend to make people lazy and forgetful but that's another discussion on its own. 😉
$50k!!? I was talking about your own personal system you posted pics of. 😛
That's its predecessor for crunching and AI based on Tesla. Water cooled with SOLA approval. It's costly.
I'm confused now. ^_^
Was that / and the replacement you are talking about now a work computer, personal computer, or both? And is this paid for by your company?
I use it at work for work and for personal use as well. It's mine so I have to pay for it but I don't pay for electricity it uses.
