I hate computers so none of the above but if I had to pick a computer job it would probably be the person in the Asus RMA department that has the big sledgehammer that fixes the boards before returning them to customers! :biggrin:

software engineer, programming is easy and generally very stress-free.

the planning/design phase is boring though.
 
Yeah, the DBAs I know don't seem stressed at all. One guy is my friend and he surfs the web most of the time and our current DBA has to be given other work to keep her busy.
 
If given the choices above, I'd definitely choose other. Video game programmer sounds fun on the surface, but from all accounts, it isn't and is almost like slave labor at companies like EA. The guys who have the most fun, I'd imagine, are the guys who design the game mechanics, rules, etc. and then pass it off to the programmers to implement.

The rest are really "meh" IMO. You can make a good living at each one but from my experience working in infrastructure for 13 years and then development for the last 3, it is no contest -- I much prefer infrastructure jobs.
 
Software Engineer. I love scripting/programming and do a ton of scripting as a Systems Administrator. I'll probably move over to a developer type role at some point.
 
I know many DBAs, and I wouldn't say that any of them have low-stress jobs. Perhaps it's the quality of the DBA that causes that?

Of the choices given, DBA. It's nothing at all like development/programming, which are all of the other choices. (That makes me wonder whether the job you're asking about is database development... those employees are also frequently called DBAs, but they're a different breed of DBA than most out in the wild.)

Beyond the list, I can't decide what I want to specialize in. Right now my effective duties are comparable to sysadmin (generalist). I'm thinking that I should 1) narrow that down to DBA, 2) start studying and become an expert in ADDS/Identity, or 3) get some training in telecom and become a telecom tech (I've gotten a tremendous amount of Avaya VOIP experience in the last year, seems awesome to me).
 
DBA as long as you aren't the one starting a new project and having to learn all the nonsense between new client software and the DB or the switch from SQL to something stupid.
 
Custom computer case artist. I know some folks who do that, cool interesting people and they seem to have a lot of fun at work.
