which of these big cities would you move to?

so I'm bored of my city. I want to make a move when I get a new job and target these cities

I'm leaning towards L.A./Southern Cali area because of the weather and I can drive my car around. It's so relaxing and comfortable there... unlike the hustle and bustle style of NYC. I'm very serious about this move and plan to stay there for at least a few years.

My industry is high-tech/IT but with big interest in finance as well if this affects anything
And my family members are mostly located on the East coast

if possible, can you post the reason why you voted for that city?
 
I'm torn. I like the people (for the most part) from Chicago better but the weather in So Cal is great.

in my experience:

umm... no and no. you WILL have to use a car for transportation, but rarely will it be moving fast enough to be called driving 🙂 also, socal is extremely money driven, its not very laid back.

if you can get over some of the... odder... elements, SF can be really nice. Driving isnt too great there either, though.
 
Cleveland has some BIG problems, but if you work in healthcare it could be a great place to live. I am going to school near there, and the public transportation is pretty good and compared to New York, Chicago or LA it is very cheap. Just stay away from East Cleveland and Harvard, nasty neighborhoods.

I could probably have a job in the bay area tomorrow morning if I wanted to and asked the powers that be at work for a transfer, but I can't see living comfortably in san fran on my current 50K salary.
 
I just moved from Chicago to SF Bay area.

I would hate to live in LA, though. freaking filthy and packed. at least the Bay Area has some semblance of a season. And there is rain, and gorgeous, gorgeous terrain everywhere.

hah. just looked for apartments in the area and didn't see anything under almost double what I'm paying for rent now.

If you want relaxing and comfortable, I would suggest coastal orange county (Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and southern parts of Irvine) instead of LA county. Much less traffic and more laid back.

My wife and I moved here 3 years ago and prior to that we had never visited the area. It is so nice and relaxing, although you will miss the rain.

but I plan to settle down in cali eventually, you think it's a good choice?
I visited huntington beach before and I liked the casual style driving in the sun with my shades lol

LA might not be a bad choice, but consider the rest of the west. SF, Sacramento, Seattle, Portland, LV, Phoenix, hell, even Denver. Salt Lake might be out if you can't stomach the whole mormon mecca thing. There are a lot of smaller cities I'm leaving out too. Spokane WA, Bend OR, Reno NV, Boise ID, St. George UT, Tuscon AZ....

Well, I live in Berkeley. It's much cheaper, and a bit nicer and more laid back...though plenty of nutsos. most people agree that the food is actually better here. as far as groceries, way cheaper than what I was paying at regular 'ol Jewel in Chicago, and fresher and higher quality.

It's about 20 minutes max to downtown SF on the BART from where I'm living. for me...that's no big deal having commuted for ~1 1/2 hours 2x per day for 2 years, then about 40-50 minutes for 2 more years when living and working in Chicago. ...and that was all within the city.

bills like water and electricity are a bit pricier, though.
 
Just went from metro Atlanta (Newnan) to San Diego (SoCal) myself and, as a new biker, I couldn't be happier. It rarely rains and it's riding season year-round. 😀

Of course, IMHO the only reason to be in the desert is to get away from it all and enjoy the beautiful night sky and empty daytime panoramas.

Desert cities don't make any sense to me.

I really love chicago, its public transportation is top notch.
I absolutely love the Bay Area, the public transportation is very good, the atmosphere is amazing, there ARE places to drive around once you get out of the city, the hills are beautiful. My uncle lives up in the hills of oakland and i love the area...

I REALLY want to move out there some point in my life, but i dont know if i would want all the hustle and bustle of that place... Chicago can be a bit more laid back i believe.

Clearly you've never lived in a desert city then. Granted, it's gotten overcrowded now, but LV was a really pleasant place to grow up (I spent my teen years there).
 
nyc will tax and fee you to death. stay out of the nyc

not only is the council and gov't generally corrupt and self serving, but this major metropolitan city is only suited for bicyclists.
 
There's a reason why it's more expensive to live in SoCal, everything is within driving distance, weather is great, girls are awesome, night life is top, is there any better place to live?
 
Anyone knows how it's in Philadelphia, PA? I *might* have a job offer there, but I am not sure how the people, weather, city-life, and overall "feel." I have lived in Seattle all my life, and just have recently graduated.
