That is a pretty decent PSU though, I used one of those in a customer build actually. So far so good, no problems, quiet, system is over a year old.

No, the EarthWatts EA-380 is one of the best <$50 for several reasons:

1) Built by Seasonic
2) 80%+ efficient and certified

My question is, is it really worth it? Is that thing SO MUCH better than the FSP on newegg to justify the extra hassle? BTW, The FSP seems to have a nicer fan...

i have that exact $40 fsp model that's being recommended. Have had it for a year or so, powering a pretty decent rig. Between the EarthWatts and the AX400, I would go for whichever is easiest for you to pick up or specific features you need/want (cable length, type of fan, connectors, warranty, etc).

Exactly what I would do. The FSP and both the Antec 430w/500w Basiq models have a 6 pin PCI-e connector, which I wouldn't forget to have, since alot of GPU's these days are requiring that connector. Any of the Antec's or the FSP would be a good idea, for a quality PSU. You decide, but if I was scrimping just a bit, I'd go with the Antec 380w model, John posted:

I was just saying, if $ were tight and he couldn't get the 430w cheap enough, that he should get the 380w one. Mind you, the 430w has more head room, so that would be the obvious choice if he could afford it.

I calculated a total difference of $10 between 400w and 500w. I don't know if it's worth it because I think 400w is more than enough for my system....Thoughts?

The 400w would indeed be enough for your current config, but the 500w would be enough for it now and a few upgrades down the road

Well I'm not much of a gamer so I don't think I'll be upgrading much. Maybe a couple more gigs of RAM in a couple years. My current system has a GeForce Ti 4400, 1st line of P4 2.0ghz, 1gb of RAM, 40gb HD. It's from like 2002, bought it for $1,500, lol.

EDIT: Do you think the 400w or 500w will be able to an 8800? Maybe in the future when 8800s are real cheap I'll add one of those into my system...

pardon my response if I misunderstood you...but are you asking if you can run a 7600GT along with an 8800 in SLi? If that is the case...no you have to run 2 of the same card in SLi. As long as they are the same GPU you can run them, even if they are clocked differently or are from different manufacturers...but they have to be the same GPU. A 400W should run an 8800GTS but for SLi you will want at least 500W....possibly more for wiggle room.

it will definitely be enough for the 8800 gt or 2950 pro/xt since all of them are rumored to be offered in single slot configuration. ati's offerings in particular are looking good right now as their 55nm process is more power-efficient than nvidia's 65 nm. I just read a link to an antec earthwatts 500w for $50, that is the one to get if it's still available!

There will be nothing to watch.... I have 2 computers that have been running on $20 PSUs for over a year now without any problems. I'll most likely get the FSP though.
