Hi all,
I am going to ditch my MPX mobo and get an Nforce2 rather than try to hunt around for a second CPU for it. My budget is around $70 so I can't afford to go A64 at this time. I would like to get an Nforce2 Ultra400 board but I am unsure which ones overclock the best/best value etc. Anyone have any recomendations

I would go with either the DFI LanParty nForce2 or the Abit NF7-S version 2. Dont get the NF7-S2, its a crippled version of the NF7-S.

I only have a 2400+ Tbred B at the moment that I am using in my dualie board. My 1700+s are now permenantly un-SMP-able and apparently superlocked. I can get this 2400+ to 2250Mhz@1.725v at 150FSB, which isn't bad as the K7d isn't a great overclocking board. Also, does the AGP/PCI lock work correctly on all the NF2 boards or are there some I should avoid?

Are you buying new or used? if new the Dfi and the Abit are out of your $70.00 price range. The Shuttle An35n Ultra is under $70.00 and overclocks great. If your going used then any of the boards mentioned could probably be found at 70.00 or less.

If I read you right, your CPU maxes out @ 150 FSB? In that case, any NF2 board will do (as long as it allows vcore adjustment). I had the MSI. It only allows 1.8 vcore, which I think held me back a bit, but I had 11x205 from my 1700+.

my 760 mpx msi k7d mobo isn't capable of anything over 150FSB. The CPU might do 166 with the right multiplier maybe.

Try moded BIOS yet for the NF7-S?

NF7-S, seem to get higher OC's on the CPU.

DFI, get a higher FSB OC

For the OP, an NF7-S might be better

The Shuttle's a good mobo for the money too (no Soundstorm though). I've got one and like it.

AFAIK the NF7-S was discontinued by Abit a month or so ago. The only option that is half decent would be DFI. Since you are going for price I'd look at the Infinity UT

When nForce2 first came out, I had an Epox 8RGA+ and it was a dandy. It was capable of fsb=225 or more back when everyone was having a hard time cracking 200. It is the IGP version and had BIOS adjustable chipset voltage.

What do you guys think of the Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 Rev 2? It is one of the few nf2 boards that has 4 Dimm slots. I wouldn't mind having 2GB of RAM :D

I would look on Newegg for a refurbished ASUS A7N8X Ultra and get a 2500+ mobile which is around $80 and will clock to at least 2.3GHz. The ASUS board will run the mobile without a problem and you can find them refurb for $40-50.
