Which of the following are respectable RAM brands?

Rosewill
Buffallo
wintec
pgi POWER
A-DATA
Supreme Top
Viking
TwinMOS
Mushkin
Apacer
Transcend
panram
Simpletech
Corsair
Kingston
Crucial

Note that I put them in order of affordibility based on newegg prices for the ram I'm looking for: DDR400(PC3200). Feel free to quote and cut out the ones you think suck. Right now I'm thinking Corsair because I've heard of it.

I have never liked Kingston since they failed to pay me on a rebate deal.

Crucial
Corsair (non value select)
Micron
Viking
Mushkin
KingMax
Samsung
Infineon

Unless some changes have taken place that I am unaware of, Crucial/Micron (same operation) is the only one of those companies that actually fabricates its own RAM -- in other words they make the RAM that they sell. Most -- if not all -- of those other companies merely quality-inspect and package RAM which they've purchased from other fabricators. That does not make them all bad, however.

I think you're safe with all of the following:

Crucial/Micron (I use it in all my PCs and Macs)

Kingston

Corsair

Mushkin

Samsung and Viking I haven't had any experience with, but I've never heard anyone say anything bad about them, and I'm generally a big fan of Samsung products.

Some people might not ever have any problem with Corsair ValueSelect memory. But I'm not one of them. I installed two brand new ValueSelect sticks on a brand new AOpen NF2 MB and got random errors.
* I flashed the BIOS and updated MB drivers
* I ram a memory check on the DIMMs (showed good)
* I was NOT OCing and still relaxed the memory timings way down

I could not get rid of the random errors. The PC was built for a friend running a family business, so I didn't have time to play around with it. I eventually installed my own Corsair XMS memory in place of the ValueSelect and ate the loss myself.
The ValueSelect worked fine on my 845PE MB.
That's my tale of woe.

What are you looking for the memory for??? ie: AMD, INTEL ????
AMD is great with low latency
INTEL runs better on faster at higher frequency (as best as INTEL can)
What mother board are you running it on?
Are you going to overclock?

For a better answer post a better question!!!

Rosewill: rebrander. Have heard only good stuff, but why bother?
Buffalo: not bad by any means, but nothing great
Wintec: ?
PQI: pretty good
A-DATA: pretty good
Supreme Top: ?
Viking:
TwinMOS:
Mushkin: reliable, but tends to have compatibility issues here and there
Apacer: pretty good
Transcend: good
Panram: ?
Simpletech: ?
Corsair:
Kingston:
Crucial:

While at it:
Samsung Original:

And SuperTalent!

Forgot them too.

And OCZ... Geez.. guess we forgot a lot of them. 🙂

But if you have a credit at Newegg or something and that's why you have to buy it from them, I guess I understand.
