I owned a dreamcast, bur sold it due to sega's withdrawl from the hardware market this past week. I currently own a playstation2 (and love it) and am also getting a Xbox, GameCube, and GameBoy Advance when their released. I started out as a console gamer, and although I gave them up for a few year's when the pc market came about with 3d acceleration, I will always be a console gamer more.

Thoughts?

Killbat:

I'd have to venture a guess that you are going to get a GBA and a GameCube :)

As far as me, I will get a GameCube, but I'll see about the GBA, because I don't really travel that often.

X-Box looks very promising...I'll think about it when it comes out. Only console I own right now is Playstation, which is sitting there eating dust in the attic.

Who cares if you travel. This thing is bitching man! :D

It has a 32 bit risc processor in it, which they claim, can do 3d alittle better than starfox could on the snes way back. The catch? Starfox needed a SuperFX chip to get more juice, this doesnt. Add to the fact that the GameBoy Advance can display better 2d than the playstation console, so I'll be the first in line for one ;)

None. Anything I want or can imagine I need is available on the PC. I don't get the allure of console gaming. Is it the gamepad? Certain games? Playing in front of the TV with others?

Ide say playing on a Sony Wega 27" thru 36" TV with the sound maxed is alot better (imo) than a 17" or 19" computer monitor cramped at a desk :D

Although fps's are still owned by pc's, I would never play a fighting game on a pc if they had one, and racer's such as Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec put pc racer's to sleep ;)

Don't get me started on the GBA! Don't get me started!
Great, now you've done it!!! :)
This thing is the next step in Nintendo's fanatically successful Gameboy pocket gaming system line. What can it do? GREAT STUFF! It's got a tad more power than the SNES had, Nintendo has actually ported some of Yoshi's Story (a sidescroller on the N64!) to the GBA for demonstration purposes. Unlike previous Gameboys, it's a wide format (ala Game Gear, Lynx), but just as thin and trim as the Gameboy Pocket. It sports the Mode 7 graphics effect of the SNES (yes, MarioKart Advance and FZero Advance are in the works and looking good!), plus the recently announced 3D engines mentioned by SweetTooth put its 3D power a smidge above the SuperFX games. It runs for 15 hours on two AA batteries, can link up to four units with the standard cable (T-style split), and select games can play up to four players WITH ONE COPY OF THE GAME! It even plays all the old Gameboy/Color games!
All this for around $90!
No wonder Big N already has 2.7million preorders!

GBA is the second coming of the SNES, just like GBC was the second coming of the NES.

i have an NES (stupid spring loaded POS, excellent games though), GB, SNES, PSX, and DC. i think i'll pass on the POS2, its not worth it just for FFX, which could be as bad as FF8, i don't know. the GC looks like a definite buy, dunno about the GBA, although it looks incredible i haven't done the handheld thing in a long time. i'll evaluate whatever the xbox will be called (they're gonna lose that lawsuit, xbox tech had that trademark in 1997, well before M$ even thought about console gaming) when it comes out, though if its just Halo and a bunch of buggy PC ports requiring patches (even blizzard patches) i'll probably pass on it.

Xbox Technologies got the Xbox trademark March of 99, 7 months before MS filed is applications. All MS has to do is call MS Xbox, thus avioding any trade mark claims. Or they could buy the trademark from the struggling software maker. In reality, the ONLY reason Xbox technologies is going after the claim is, 1. they think they can make a buck 2. the company ain't got much money.

So to sum it up, we will be seeing MS XBox in fall of 2001, of course people will still just call it Xbox, just like they call MS Excel, Excel.
