which new MB for slot 1

Both of the MoBos mentioned are good stable units with the Asus P3V4X having the edge on overclocking flexibility. I haven't checked PW lately but the last time I looked both were pretty close in price. Can't go wrong with either one, though!

I don't think that a new mobo alone is going to do much for your systems performance. Well, unless you have some OCing in mind or you BX6 is defective. Don't know what your system is but maybe you could gain more by spending your money to upgrade other components. New vid card? More ram? Faster hdd?

Since BX performance is fairly good compared to via and i815, and you must stick with your slot 1 cpu, you might want to think about sticking with your BX6 until you're ready to upgrade your cpu, then buy a mobo that best fits your new cpu.

Good BX systems still smoke man.

Yeah what emjem said. I have an Abit BX6 rev2 that had a Celeron 366 @ 550. Then I went to a P3-700E thats at 868 right now. BX boards are some of the fastest and best boards you can get. I would think about getting another proc/HDD/ video card. Tell us your system specs and we can help you more.

I'm currently using the Abit BX6R2 board as well and have to agree, keep it if you can...you can't beat a good BX board just yet.

I would agree with what others have already said about the BX boards. Unless your's is defective, I would not replace it since it would not gain you very much if anything at all in peformance. If you were to get a new CPU, then I would go for an i815e. If you need to replace a bad board, I would suggest a Soyo 6BA+100. It would enable you to use 2 HDDs in RAID mode using its integrated ATA-100 controller, providing a noticable performance gain. The Soyo boards also provide much OCing ability and are a very stable board.
