Which mp3 player would you buy - Nomad Jukebox Zen or iPod?

After owning the original Nomad Jukebox, and having to deal with Creative's support, I would not ever buy another one of the portable digital products (but I do like the soundcards!)

As for the Apple, it's a slick device, I would probably prefer this.

However, you need to add this to your list, it's one that I'm considering now:

Toshiba's Portable Digital Player

This thing has 5GB *removable* storage, with capacities expected to get larger.

i'm being told on some mac forums that the ipod doesnt let you transfer MP3's to/from any computer except the original one you used it with unless you download 3rd party software.

Well neither since I recently got a Nomad 3 (20 gig for $350 instead of the iPods $500). I really like it and the most recent firmware release fixes a lot of the playlist problems I had with it (genre then albums then songs, instead of genre then all songs).

The Apple iPod will definitely have better customer support and warranty support. Apple is probably one of the best computer companies out there for that. But you will pay more for it.
Creative in turn offers the same style hardware for cheaper.

Things I like about my Nomad 3: dual battery bays (20 hours of goodness instead of 10), very very good sound quality (s/n ratio is the higher than the iPod, Zen has the same), USB and Firewire so I've got both (but damn, why not USB2?).
The Zen shares most of these, except the dual battery bays. Its just in a more portable form factor which is a non issue for me since I use my at my desk, in my car, on planes, etc...
Oh yeah, you can sync up a Nomad 3 with any computer out there not just one. So you can share your mp3's with other people this way.

iPod.

I have the 10GB Mac-compatible and I absolutely love it.

I would never touch anything made by Creative. Their "customer service" is the some of the worst that I have ever seen.

The iPod is awesome. I love mine.

i'd go towards the ipod.. still looks better. also... does the zen have a remote? if not, definately the ipod. but that's if i had money to burn.. or really needed 20GB's of mp3's on me at any given time (hell, i don't even have that much..)

Another vote for the Toshiba.

There was a mini review in this month's or last month's PC World magazine.

Whatever you get, make sure it has a big enough display and is easy to navigate and select songs.
Ease of use is everything!

I have a 10GB mac iPod...but Zen looks like it has some advantages over the ipod

Pros:
1. USB AND FireWire
2. 20GB for $299 AR (you'd get only a 5GB iPod, no case, no remote for that price)
3. 10GB Nomad Jukebox sounds better than my iPod, and I would expect Zen to sound atleast as good
4. Plays MP3 AND WMA (iPod does not play WMA)

Cons:
1. Significantly bigger than iPod
2. Looks less appealing
3. No Scroll-wheel :p (you really need to try out the iPod to see how beautiful the menu is!)
4. No remote (but you don't get one with the iPod at comparable price either)

IMO the Pros here are more important to me than the Cons. So, if I had to buy another mp3 player (which I almost certainly will, considering "my" iPod is actually my wife's iPod :p ) I would definitely give the Zen a look before deciding.

I have a 20GB IBM compatible ipod. While its expensive I have to say that its worth every penny. The creative design is not as nice in my opinion and is definitely larger. Whether that makes it worth the money to you or not is up to you.

Ipod. My teacher just got one, and I must say, I have never seen anything as slick or well designed. It's worth the extra $$ IMO.

My bad. I editted it. This one is too hard of a call for me to pick. I want an 10GB iPod, but its still too expensive for my reach right now.
