What kind of iPod is this? It shows up as a removable drive, you can put data right on it, but music has to go on from iTunes, so I guess you're half right

I need some buying tips. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg. I would like to be able to use it at the gym and when I run. I have been looking at the ipod shuffle, but for the price, and 512 meg memory, I'll pass. I maybe have about 5-8 gig of music on my harddrive, which all doesn't need to be loaded on my mp3 player. I don't need any photo stuff on it either.

Someone said the Ipod mini is awesome? Why is that? Are you happy with the price to size ratio?

I own a Rio Carbon myself. 5 GB storage space, 18-20 hours of battery life on a single charge, smaller (in all but one dimension I believe) and lighter than a iPod Mini, and, of course, costs less (mine was $200 CDN).

I will add: Uses USB 2.0 as its connection and charger, and requires no special driver to have it recognized by any modern USB-compatible OS. Yet on top of that, music is copied over to the player by dragging and dropping in Windows Explorer so there's no worrying about the installation of any new software to start use of your MP3 player. It's quite happy to store regular files that way, too, making it a great USB thumb drive replacement.

Buy one. :)

I heard that there are ways around that. For example, you can get an app called gtkpod for Linux that doesn't require iTunes to upload music, and there is supposedly a plug-in for Winamp as well.
