hey everyone...
i was having problems with win2k on a friends system. heres the situation...
installed win2k. install went great! booted up for the first time with no problems. go to reboot again...a stop error on bootup saying something about the PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FIALED or rather :)

so we try and reinstall and it goes fine, this time booting up fine..installed all the drivers for printers and such blah blah...installed sp1 and all of the compatability updates and such and everything goes great. i spent hours installing everything he needed. i leave, go home, and around midnight i get a call from him saying that its blue screening on startup again but this time something about the registry is corrupted?? im gonna go over tonight and to save a trip back and forth from my house to his to get info here i wanted to know what you guys think..in the OS forum someone mentioned promise drivers...ill download them as soon as i get into the os...but they also mentions mainboard bios. this is where you guys come into play.
do any of you know which mother board shipped out with dell's dimension xps t600 system?
id like to know in case i have to flash the bios. he doesnt have a mobo with intergrated ata66 controller so its using a pci promise controller, could this be the problem? thanx again for all of your help guys and gals

Actually its Intel SE440BX-2 mobo. Anyway use latest BIOS from Dell.
You'll find it in support section. Dell also runs forums ,you might find help there.

I would not recommend using reference Intel BIOS even if it looks more up to date.
Intel BIOS wont let you upgrade this mobo to FCPGA CPU and theres no way to
go back to Dell BIOS. :(

EDIT: Latest Dell BIOS for it is A11.

okay, so its a p3-600 katmai on an intel seattle board. using a promise pci controller. what are the other components in the system?

you're not running two maxtor drives on that promise card, are you? i did that once... bad experience. or the drive could have a bad sector. computer will crash trying to write to it.
