Which motherboards have the highest RMA rates?

The most common scenario I have seen are those random crashes, "my system crashes at the middle of the game", or "it hangs when I try to listen to MP3". I checked the BIOS settings, they were all correct, 4-in-1s are installed, OS is configured properly, and it just wont work. There is a reason why Abit boards arent on the AMD recommended list.
 
If you mean proof as in a web site or something written on stone, then no, I do not have any of that. F'course, now you're gonna start calling me a liar.
 
And i will agree with you on most of that. I like to sell MSI's more also. But that doesnt mean abits suck ;-) they are focused at a niche that like to tweak things. And a bad tweaker or a person who doesnt know much about a computer can mess up an abit quick. The sad thing is abit will prolly never get into a big retail computer because of this. If HP's started coming with abits, everyone would buy them to overclock them, and HP's would be get returned left and right.

Heh, thats why i always keep 3 hd's layign aorund with a fresh copy of ME, 2000 and 98se laying around. I just plug my HD and play an mp3, and boom it doesnt lock up. Then i tell em to reinstall windows yours is corrupt, Have a nice day!
 
I just spoke to the dealer that stopped sellig Abit boards. He was saying he had a ~6% return on Abit boards, as opposed to a ~2% return on DFI boards and about ~1.5% on Asus. He said a lot of the boards came back simply because customers complained of very bad stability (both tweakers and standard customers) -and that he could very rarely find the source of the problems himself.

You're right, and you're the Abit supporter I have met with the most empathy. Im glad we share the same experience with MSI, and it's unfortunate that we had different experience with Abit.
 
Well, I have had an Abit BE6-2 for about a year and a half. My first concern is with the POS High Point ATA/66 controller. This has been on their boards since late 99 and it still does not work till this day. Any company using anything from High Point should be considered incompetent IMHO. I mean, if after close to 3 years of using an inferior product that tends to delete random parts of your hard drive and countless usenet posting and customer complaints why in the world would anyone use anything from High Point. Even Linux has this controller blacklisted. My next concern is the instability and unreliability of the bios on this board, I would have to set the cpu speed at least twice before it got it. And the proper detection of ide drives was also a problem, you would have to go into bios and manually change to manual detection than back to automatic before it got it. I remember when this board came out it was up there at the top. Of course now that I have the htp366 disabled, the usb disabled, my 4 ide cd and hd drives rigged up in a special order, the board runs flawlessly.
 
Interesting, i have had great luck with the ata66 and 100 controllers from highpoint. Now thoese promise ones tho, they have been hell under win2k.

 
Go to google groups, type "htp366 problem" and you will feel my pain...Problems since 99. Especially if you have a large Maxtor drive.
 
Can't believe the stuff I am hearing!

1 thing I can tell you. I am, I admit, somewhat of a novice, but good at anything, plumbing, roofing, ceramic tile, cars, etc, so I figured, since I learn pretty fast I'm gonna try it.

I bought, on advice an abit VT6X4. I brought it home, read the book that came with it, put it together and everything worked first time out. Now my head swelled and I consider myself an expert!! Just kidding but a relative junior got it right the first time, right out of the box, everything works, when it boots up, I see the proper things I'm supposed to see for the award bios, udma66,etc,etc. In win98se\control panel\system everything is good there. Everything works and I have this sucker loaded with everything you can possibly buy. Pretty well name it I have it, scanner,game equipment, burner, printer, tv, radio, etc,etc. Plus, the VT6X4 is one of their cheapest boards!

I don't believe I am that good. I think the abit board was pretty good and I am, after doing this, better than I was before, with a lot to learn.

I am surprised to hear people crap these boards but I do bow to your superior knowledge.

I'm just very surprised, actually more like just a little shocked. But I have heard that PC Chips boards are pretty junky. That does seem to be a standard rating for them. And I hear that Asus is very good.

I bet some of the problems with abit are due to overclocking, which, of course, I didn't do. I was just glad the damn thing worked!!









 
damocles you really heard that from a local dealer?
pretty surprising but since i beleive it i am not surprised because its soo hard to choice a mobo brand or anything.
Thats why it takes me so long to choice and everything 🙁
i got to be careful but so far this abit is cool and i know someone that used my mobo the abit kt7a raid which brought like 14 + of them and all work fine so i guess some people they work good and some they dont.
Who knows what the real problem is.
Could be the mobo, could be the hardware compat. , Could be anything 🙁
i hate when this happens but this is the computer world.
But if i can i may try asus mobo then a different brand , and another different brand , and so on so i can make a personal decision because everyone's opinions are different.
I am not saying anyone is wrong with saying Abit has the most RMA's because i bet yall arent wrong but i dont know that since i had this abit mobo without problems for 3 + months.
But i hate that First it was the IBM 75 gxp series some people were saying had problems , then what is getting started now is plextor 16x 10x 40x CD-RW is breaking after a few months or days and now its mobos companys doing it.
i hate it lol
But i just got to be careful thats all and have lots of luck hehe

BTW the IBM 75 gxp series HDs some people have the 45 gig HD and it stills works fine so who knows. Its just like abit mobos sorta. Some have them and they work good and fine and some got them and they work terrible and give all kind of problems. I guess thats the chance you take sometimes but i wish we didnt have to.


 
LXi see i didnt call you liar. I am not that kind of person. I beleive you because the customers know what is better to buy than the people who are selling it because they had the product and such. And plus the internet is very powerful so you can find out about lots of things if the product is good or not.

Most people do that when someone says they dont have proof?

To be honest 6% was lower than i expected, i guess 94% of customers love their Abit boards. Being a geek i tend to spend way too much times in stores and know the guys pretty well.

I know that a lot of Motherboard reviews i have seen criticise the quality of Abit motherboards (look through some of Anands for example). It looked like they were getting better for a while but overall i'm not convinced

You know what damocles i forgot to say i was choosing from a Abit KT7A raid and Asus a7v 133 mostly when i was shopping for a mobo mostly. But the #1 reason i got the Abit kt7a raid even thou yall may flam me for this lol. (which i hope not) I got the Abit KT7A raid instead because it was the one with a isa slot the Asus had a cnr or amr slot forgot.
If Asus would of had a isa slot instead then it would of been a harder choice and maybe i would of got the asus mobo. But the reason i wanted the isa slot is because i needed it for this old SB16 isa sound card i had if i wanted to have sound becuase i had no more money to get a pci sound card and from my last brought computer it has a onboard sound card. So i was stuck between a rock and a hard place lol. I know i could of got a cheap pci sound card but i sorta didnt have no money and they really didnt have any around here. But i really wanted to wait and get a really good sound card thats alittle more expersive. So i got the Abit KT7A raid with the isa slot so i would have sound on my games i play at least. Or i could of went without sound for 3 to 5 months hehe.
Cause i am just starting to shop for a sound card now.
But i came close to getting the Asus but when i forgot i needed a isa slot to have sound i knew i had to get a mobo with a isa slot.
I know isa is old but i needed it just for alittle while.

some people tell me why in the world u need a isa slot. Stuff is pci now.
but i appreicate you thinking its a good reason for getting one mobo over another.
I wish Asus would make mobos with one isa slot at least rather than that CNR slot 🙁
Too bad but i think it wont matter anymore cause once i get a pci sound car i can always use it in my next system and not worry about needing a isa slot ever get hehe.
soon they will dissappear i guess
