so which one? i need to decide between the two soon...

i need one that will overclock well.
3000+ to at least 3500+ speeds on stock air yet stays stable

they're both good boards. you have the chance of getting a bad board with any brand you buy. when i got mine new hardware, i was trying to pick between these two also. i went with the dfi board and have been nothing but happy with it.
 
Both excellent boards but I went for the MSi based on Anadtech's comparison review of the boards. Plus you can get it for a much better deal since all the DFi fanboys are telling every person who says the word motherboard to buy a DFi. Personally, I also find the black & yellow to be quite ugly in a windowed case.

DFi=for serious overclockers & stupid kids who want to look cool & fry their computer equipment.

MSi=for someone who wants the ability to overclock, but is more interested in stability & not having to tweak every little thing to make their system run right.

Scroll to the top of the screen & click the Motherboards tab, then click the SLI Roundup article. You will see comparisons of most of the major mobos going that support SLI if you're into that. Good luck.
 
hey pr0d.. didnt it come out to basically a tie?

(their article didnt help me much...)

dfi has 2x pci- ex slots and msi has 1..

atm, waiting to see the comments on the new chips... was going to get fx-55 but you guys made me see the light.. now decidig btwn a 3000 to a 3500 chip.
(was looking at the 3200 but its basically the same as the 3000 so why spend the 40 bucks.. but the 3500 ... well getting closer to picking a rig...)

newegg is holding my new rig in wishlist.. it seems to be changing more often the closer i get to buying it..

that's the best comparrison i've seen. you have to tweak EVERYTHING if you're going to oc on the dfi board. not that it's a bad thing, but it is something you need to be aware of.
 
they all use the same core. all the 90n cores are pretty much the same, though now that venice is about to get unleashed, that will change.
 
i already bought my cpu. its the 3000+. i decided to go with that because generally, ive heard its been a good overclocker, most easily going to 2.4ghz and many going past that mark. the 3000+ oem priced at 113 was also an influence in my decision.

thanatos355 and Pr0d1gy, you say the dfi boards need everything to be tweaked to OC well? How much teaking are you talking about? I also hear a lot of things need to be set using jumpers on the board which many believe to be tedious and very time consumming.

maybe i should go buy both boards to test and see which one i like better...
 
I picked MSI becuase it has DOT. I'd rather let the motherboard do the overclocking. I don't feel I need to overclock my 3500.

yeah, the 3000+ really is the sweet spot. it ocs as well as the higher priced models, so get some good ram and max the cpu out.

the tweaking really depends. the higher you go, the more tweaking you'll need to do. there is plenty of support for all those tweaks out there, so dont be afraid of that. there is an abudance of help available here and elsewhere to help you get your stuff setup.

if you have to money, deffinately get both! i would have LOVED to do that. then i'd have had to get another cpu and more ram and a vid card too. i'm sure my wife woldnt have complained about her getting a new rig too though. 😉

about the jumpers. unless you plan on running an sli setup or some ocs vx, there's no need to mess with the jumpers.

That is an excellent idea if you can afford it. Just buy both & cardboard bench them to see which you prefer, then sell the one you don't want to keep to a friend or on the trading forums.
 
Make no mistake about it, the DFI will allow you to go where other boards simply cannot. It is analogous to having a completely full toolbox at your disposal intead of a Leatherman supertool. It's not for the timid, but it is a great baord for a non or mild overclocker as well. The onboard components, heatsinked mofsets, reset and power switches onboard, etc.. The Ultra-D doesn't cost THAT much more than any 939 board. For what you pay, this board is a bargain...
