Which monitor setup would you choose and why?

assuming that each setup would cost the same, would you rather have...

1. 1 x 18" Dell ultra sharp lcd's and 2 x KDS rad 5 15" lcds?

or

2. 2 x 18" Dell ultra sharp lcd's?

I would rather have the second option. In fact, as soon as I get enough spending money saved I'm going to buy my second 1800fp.

Number one because of resolution constraints. I run triple head now with a 19" and two 17", and that is my biggest complaint.

why number 2 as compared to number 1?

Two of the same thing side by side. With the same size and resolution, I would assume it would be easier on the eyes. Besides, do you really need 3?

When you run two different sizes of monitor, at the same resolution the image/text sizes look completely wack, and it is difficult to find different resolutions that make them appear identical. Also, #2 would look more symmetrical.

not familiar with using three monitors, but aren't there programs that would allow me to run different resolutions on different monitors. I was thinking about going with number 1 so i have my main monitor that i can play games or watch movies off of and have the 2 rad 5's on the side for when i need additional space. but it seems the general consensus is the 2 18" ultrasharps.

I'll be happy with either, but probably will go with #1. I can use the dell as the main screen while I can use one for mps/entertainment+equalizer etc and another for photoshop etc...

#2 easily.

The symmetry would be much better.

You can run different resolutions on different screens using software. Ultramon has been mentioned a few times, no personal experience with it though.

#1 = (1280x1024) + (1024x768x2) = 2883584
#2 = 1280x1024x2 = 2621440

(assuming the dell ultrasharps are 1280x1024, but if they are 1600x1200 then they are a much better choice)

difference is 9% viewable screen resolution.

This is also assuming you have 2 DVI outputs on your graphics card.

I have a 23" lcd and will hook up a 17" crt when I live home after Uni. Will run 1920 x 1200 + 1280 x1024.

I would go for option 2. I also have two LCDs and it's sooo nice (clear on the eyes, they match each other, same resolutions, same brightness & composition, etc) - check out my sig.

What graphics card would you guys get that has dual DVI? I haven't seen too much available besides these: MSI geforce4, gainward golden sample, matrox parhelia, matrox g550
