Need to get a new monitor since my 1440x900 samsung lcd is dieing.

someone suggest me the LG IPS236v

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+IPS...&skuId=2031077

looks like a solid monitor and have to go to the store to pick it up

but then i found the ASUS VE258Q

I was going to go with the LG since it would be my first IPS panel, but someone told me glossy monitors are bad. idk why i confused myself but you guys always got the better answers! I just mostly game and watch tv shows and if someone could help me make my decision or recommend another monitor that would make me happy that would be great

the LG screen is not glossy at all. it may be IPS but to me it looks no better than the TN panels right beside it in the store. and for gaming the LG is not so great from some reviews I have seen.

On this note; the overall responsiveness of the LG IPS236V left a lot to be desired according to the review. The stated ISO response time of 8ms and grey to grey response time of 5ms (see the monitor technology article) were far from achievable using an accurate oscilloscope-based measurement. Prad.de recorded an average response time of 30.8ms, which just goes to show how ludicrous and misleading the specified values of such things can be. They noted that a stronger overdrive algorithm would have been preferred and that they found the trailing bothersome.

Generally speaking I'd think that an IPS panel would be preferable, but I have a couple of Asus TN panels and they are lightyears better than TN's that I've used in the past. Plus, the ASUS at 25" will actually give you decent pixel pitch for 1920x1080 (almost exactly the same as 1680x1050 on a 22" monitor).

Hmm the IPS panel with ghosting would be a definite turnoff....

I think the Asus is what I'm going to go for. I had an Asus mobo once and swore never to buy from them. But if i remember corrently these Asus' monitors have been selling pretty well the last couple of years and it being on sale is very tempting. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger for the Asus on newegg very soon if no one has any other information I should know of or could suggest a better product that has HDMI and a high res. thanks for the help guys

Edit: Went ahead and got the Asus 🙂
