Hi,
I am planning to build a new computer system. I don't know which motherboard should I buy?
Which motherboard would you buy from A7V133, MSI K7T Turbo-R, KT7A Raid, or Iwill KK266?
Is MSI K7T Turbo-R available now? Is there any review about MSI K7T Turbo-R?
I need your help.
Thanks.

ASUS is a safe bet for most chipset configurations. The IWILL KK266 is getting geat reviews, I think I'll give it a look.

I would buy the MSI K7T Turbo-R ,MSI products are in general always slightly cheaper then Asus products & it`s just as stable, for a review go here for MSI K7T-Turbo or check Anandtechs MSI K7T-Turbo review under Motherboard reviews.

There wasn't much of a choice two~three weeks ago when Abit was the only board out, then the Asus came out which drew a fair amount of Asus fans, now with MSI out, it really is a tough choice, but it all comes down to quality and price, and the MSI excels in both areas, my number 1 pick.

unquestionably, the iwill board...crushes the rest in overclockability, it's stable, and cheaper than most others...

<<A7V133... any questions???>>

Yea, I've got a few questions. I run 5 PCI devices with my Voodoo5 heatsink blocking one of the PCI slots, it appears that it'll also block the IDE ports on the A7V133. I also would like to run RAID1, and I've got a rather tiny case. Is the Asus for me?

J/k.

Damn, the four mobos you mentioned must be the top four mobo manufacturers in the world. Geeeez, they are so close to each other that I would suggest going for the cheapest you can find. FYI, I personally own ABIT KT7A though.

PS: I do not recommend the Asus A7V133 as several forum users are having problems with the mobo. Do a search in the forum and you should find threads complaining problems with Asus A7V133.

I'm one of such people reporting problems, however I've fixed all of them. See my completed review for details. On the other hand, I never fixed my MSI Pro2A problems (yes it was possibly defective), hence my motherboard replacement.

Either the Asus or MSI board, their both excellent board. In fact their both so good that I can't really say which one is better than the other... I'd take either of those over the other two mentioned, not to say that the Abit and IWill boards arent great though.

Whichever board you find cheaper between the Asus and MSI board I'd suggest.

Any suggestion?

Hey Leo,

what was your problem with the KT7pro2a? Mine just went Kaput! Actually, it got weird on me while I was trying to use the floppy. It refused to recognize any disk in it one night. I got frustrated, gave up and selected shut down. It went off faster than any system I have ever seen then it started beeping like mad. The LED's lit up R G R R which indicates bad RAM if I can read properly... ;-) I swapped parts galore without success. Everything works fine in my A7V. Needless to say the board is in RMA land. Just curious. Yes, I had the weird changing mulitplier and bios flashing was a challenge as well. Other than that it was great....

Its hard to tell you which one is the best, depends on the kind of features you want to use. I would say the MSI is the highest quality and most stable of the three, and Iwill is the most overclockable of the three, however the Abit is the one with the most bells and whistles.

I have had two KT7A Raid boards and so far I have had nothing but trouble with them. There is a known issue with the raid controller and the Sound Blaster Live or Live Value cards.

The ABIT KT7A Raid uses a Highpoint Raid controller and the Asus A7V133 uses a Promise Raid controller, in my opinion I would opt for the Promise Raid controller.

However, the Asus only has 5 PCI slots available, and the IDE configuration was not well designed, it's a VERY tough decision, but either of the 4 should work just fine.

Iwill KK266-R would be the best choice. Highest overclocking out of the group due to the latest Northbridges and a far superior raid controller.
