Which Mobo to Get? Asus or Abit?

I building a new system and stuck on which mobo to get. I'm looking at these 4:

P4P800 Dlx
P4C800 Dlx
IC7-G
IS7-G

I'll be using a P4 2.4 C.
2x 512MB (2700 or 3200)
ATI 9700 Pro.

I will not be overclocking right away, but I might later.

Any suggestions welcome!

Abit all the way. No question about it. Either of those Abit boards will be fine. I have an IC7-G.

Asus is the devil.

I haven't built a new computer system yet but I still would suggest Asus. My old rig has been running rock solid on an Asus board. I had trouble building a computer for a friend with an Abit board, but it might have been an isolated case (or maybe stupidity on my part) :p

I would probably go with the IC7/-G board cause it's a fast but fairly affordable board.
It's known as a good overclocker too. If you go with a P4c, then you don't want PC2700 ram, you want PC3200 or better.
That's what I would buy if I was going with a P4c right now.

I've always loved my Abit board. Never had a problem with it. Never used an Asus board, but I hear they are excellent.

Either one will make you happy.

I read the blue space ship like ABIT fan is loud and prone to failure. I think it was CPU magazine, or maybe it was Maxiumum PC where I read the fan bearing went bad. I have an old ASUS and the manual was lousy. I heard it hasn't changed. I would consider the Gigabyte 8KNXP.

I'd go Abit because like others said they perform really well, but also their customer service is much better than asus' if you have something go wrong... Can go too wrong with either though.

Yeah, the fans on the original revision IC7s are pretty bad. I have one now... It's just the loudest thing in my case, screaming along at 5200 rpm. This baby is gettin replaced by a zalman passive northbridge cooler TODAY.

But if you wind up w/ a motherboard that has the older fan on it, email Abit your name, phone number, and serial number of the board. THey'll send you a new fan, free of charge. That's what good customer support does... Asus could learn a thing or two.

ASUS All the way. Gigabyte is the Devil. Asus has always been a rock solid board for the price. I have never had hardware conflict with any of the boards I have used.

ASUS P2BX, CUV4X, P4PE have all performed amazingly. I am not down playing ABIT, but few people I know of own an ABIT board. And Abit has never ranked high at Motherboards.org.

IMHO.

I've had a half-dozen Abit boards. Every single one has been defective, or plagued by incompatability or bugs. This includes a batch of 3 NF7s - all of which were faulty.

You get what you pay for. With budget brands like Abit, expect budget quality.

I have had no problems with my Asus or MSI boards.

I've always been an ASUS fanboy myself. However, after the P4PE cold boot issue and ASUS's lack of support , I started looking at other mobos. Abit make some nice stuff and they have a pretty good forum. Asus is lacking in the support area from what I have seen.

I also like how Abit has eXcaliberPC.com as there exclusively authorized parts & accessories fulfillment center for ABIT-USA Service & Support. They have all the accessories and parts you need for Abit equipment. The way Abit handled the IC7 NB HSF issue was great. Every owner gets a new HSF not just the new rev of the board. Asus could learn a lot from Abit.

Budget brand? My Abit IC7-G was a whole $10 less than my P4C800 Deluxe.... Mmmm k? I'm on my second NF7 board, but only because I destroyed the last one. Mishandled the board, and messed it up. I bet this guy up above did the same.

Asus. Period.

Less buggy, a better overclocker, a less whiny n/b cooling system, more stable, better BIOS (You grow to like AMI :)) correct temperature reporting, easier to set up, doesnt die as much. If you need more reasons to get the asus PM me, I own both asus and abit.

Not less buggy.... not a better overclocker (3dmark champion uses abit), the new northbridge fans are just as quiet as any (the one on my NF7 is near silent), both abit and asus bios suck (taiwanese->english), well, dang got me on the temp thing... Abit is7 and ic7s read temps up to 10C to high.... they are equally easy to setup... I bet if you did the same things you did to an abit board, to an asus board, they'd both be dead. If you need more reasons to get the abit, PM me, I own ONLY abit, because I ONCE owned asus.

ABIT all the way, no question. If you need LAN go for IS7 or IS7-G, otherwise get the IC7 which is a bit faster but only a little more expensive (there is an IC7-G but it is a good 60-80% more expensive than an IS7). Don't worry about the whiny northbridge fan... the newer revision that is shipping now has a much improved fan.

If you have a 2.4C, DO NOT GET PC2700! As an owner of the IS7, I highly recommend Geil Golden Dragon PC3500. I tried several sticks of Corsair and all gave me lots of problems and instability with this board, but GeIL runs flawlessly. There seems to be an issue with RAM using Winbond CH-5 chips with 865PE/875P boards... since GeIL makes their own chips you don't have to worry about this. Right now I'm running 220MHz FSB 1:1 with 2-3-3-6 and GAT set to Street Racer... many users who paid 30-50% extra for Corsair or Kingston RAM are unable to get stability with GAT. Bottom line, go for the GeIL Golden Dragon PC3500 matched pair pack whichever board you get (and cost isn't an issue, it's cheaper than Corsair/Kingston/Mushkin PC3200).

For the record, I'm running my Corsair 3500 @ 448mhz, and 2-2-2-5. On an Abit IC7-G. Never had any problems. And Gat is set to Street Racer.
