Which MMORPG is better?

Which MMORPG is the best? also, if you know of a better one please mention it and reasons etc. and I'll add it to the poll.

It really depends on personal taste, really. Guild Wars is geared more for the solo player, whereas EQ2 is geared towards groups. The only way to determine which is right for you is to try both (I know EQ2 has a trial, not sure about GW).

Guild Wars really isn't an MMO. The only MMO part about it is when you are in cities. When you are actually in PvE or PvP combat, it's you and a few other people. You don't see anyone when you are PvE fighting.....ever.

THe OP is new, so instead of saying "we just had this question" I will say "do a search".

I like GW better because its free. The concept of continually paying for a game I already own is asinine to me.

As for all the folks who say it isnt MMO: The name of the game is "GUILD" wars. The whole point is to gather up your team (other human players) and fight other teams and do the campaign in groups. Anyone who is playing solo or with just the henchmen is wasting their time. As a single player game its OK but loses most of the appeal.
Although I would love to see a patch that lets me play the campaign alone, without being connected to the servers. I doubt that will ever happen.

GW's only saving grace is that it's free. If it were a p2p game, there'd be like 5 subscribers. Solo play is non existant, it's impossible to solo regardless of how well built your character is. The best you can do is make multiple characters and switch up for certain areas.

It's a 100% PUG based game, unless you can find a good Guild anyways, or you're only interested in PvP. And even so, you spend half your time looking for a well balanced group, which is extremely rare, because the most important character in the game (the monk) is also the least played since it's boring as all hell. Who wants to just run around healing everybody else? People buy RPGs so they can go out and kick some fvcking ass, not support everybody else while they do it. You'll find yourself sitting in town for 15 minutes before every mission spamming 'GLF Healer'.

The AI is also horribly scripted, they'll ignore all other party members and go straight for the weakest one, typically the monk. The new 'improved enemy AI' makes them run from AOE spells, which greatly reduced the effectiveness of high damage dealing elementalists. At one point the enemies used to chase you down forever, they 'fixed' that, but you'll still be followed for a good minute or so before they finally turn back. Aggro'ing one monster will usually draw an entire group regardless of whether the rest saw you or not.

There are no potions, the only good way to heal yourself other than having a good monk, or being a monk yourself is to stay out of a fight long enough for your health to start regenerating, but if you attack or get attacked it stops. Each class has some sort of self healing skill, but they're all useless crap that won't keep you alive for shyt. Health degeneration will kill you instead of stopping at 1 hp, so even if you do manage to barely make it out of a fight alive and trek a mile before you finally stop being chased, poison or a degen hex can still pop you, even without an enemy anywhere in sight.

The henchmen are pretty much useless and nerf the already limited amount of drops. There are no unique items to go searching for, GW is all about going from mission to mission to mission so you can get to the next town to buy the next set of armor. They capped the levels at 20 to avoid grinding, when the game is one giant grind in itself. And in the latter parts of the game the monsters can get up to 8 levels higher than the player's cap. Missions are long and drawn out, and incredibly boring, if your party dies you have to start all over. There's no good way to get around either, the levels, and even the towns are so massive, but they're all so repetitive, and you just have to walk....forever. I'm like fvck give me a horse or something.

It's just the worst investment I've ever made in a game, I play it every so often just to try and get the most out of the $50 I wasted on it. I still have more fun playing Diablo 2 LOD.

Hey Inappropriate4AT, I tottaly agree with you, I felt the same way when I was playing guild wars. After I played through the GW missions there was nothing left, so I installed d2 LOD I only played through normal once when I first got it, and played online through hell(with the new patch) with a skelemancer. It's the best rpg ever made. I even got some kids here to play lan with me, its good fun.

What I'm looking for is an MMORPG thats similar to diablo 2. That would be the ultimate game fowsho.. do you know if theres a game like that around?

Yeah D2 is def my fav RPG to date. A lot of people say Dungeon Siege 2 plays a lot like Diablo 2, but there's a lot of mixed reviews. There's a pretty lengthy demo out, you should probably check it out before buying it. I don't know of any currently released Diablo clones, but this upcoming game Titan Quest looks pretty close to the gameplay style of Diablo. Hellgate: London looks pretty promising too, I'm lookin forward to that one.

Doesn't exist. Guild Wars is close, for obvious reasons, but there aren't any true MMOs out there similar in gameplay to D2.

The market sucks right now. Shadowbane bombed and the only popular MMOs are level-grinding, loot-hording games like WoW. No thanks.

Me... I'm waiting for Darkfall Online.

hey cooler, why did you spend so much money on your cpu, and get that video card? just wondering.

I have that video card too. When it came out, it was the best card on the market. It is still a great card.

That's basically what Diablo 2 is! A level-grinding, loot-based game.

One problem. Diablo 2 is a hack and slash. It plays way faster than almost all mmorpgs. You kill faster, get instant satisfaction faster, get more item drops, and level faster.

GW isn't an MMO because it lacks MASSIVE multplayer online experiences. Even in the FAQ section on the official site it says "we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game)".

Guild wars, for me, lacked the addictive feeling of an MMO. After a week or so of playing it became boring. Not to mention solo-play was pretty much non-existant. The only ok part about the game was the PvP matches.

Also, for those of you looking for a new D2, you all should check out Hellgate London. Its being made by the makers of Diablo II (they have split off from blizzard I believe). It is mainly online I think. It is a future based FPS/3rd person melee/RPG that is very stat and equipment based. Check it out.

I'd take GW because its monthly charge, or lackthereof, is kind to my wallet, because SOE botched SWG so bad I won't even touch their electronics or DVD movies.
