in ww2, it took a long time to move things because all they had was ships. load up a C-5/C=17, load up C-130's.(C-5/C-17's are quite large) they can air drop anything in the arsenal right now anywhere. there are videos of them dropping M1A1 abrams tanks, and if they can drop a 60+ ton tank, they can drop just about anything else.

edit: usually its marines to go in and muscle in the area, then the army comes in and keeps it secure. not sayin the army is all that. i cant seem to find em, but i know i've seen videos that show m1's dropping from aircraft. that and engineer vehicles too. they land hard as hell, but they land in one piece(more than i can say for a HMMWV.)

uhh, no. Airborne DIVISIONS take tanks and arty with them.
MEU have everything from tanks, artillery, and armored vehicles.
Wrong again buddy, the infantry component of a MEU is simple a rifle battalion
Heavy weaponry is not an option for paratroopers because the parachutes can't handle the weights.
You tellin me they dont air drop tanks? LOL dude you might want to look that up.
You can literally land thousands of marines and tons of equipment off one ship, but you cannot do that with a C-130.
MEU's do most of thier landings by helicopter, amphibious landings are pretty rare.
Common sense tells me that the more men you have and the more equipments you have, the slower you are.
If you knew any facts you would be right. But a single Marine rifle battalion is about 1/15th the size of an Airborne division. Not to mention they carry less gear.

You almost had it. A MEU does not just contain a simple infantry battalion. But it is reinforced with arty, amphibious assault, recon (LAV), and or other types included.

Are you a Marine?

EDIT:

I forgot to add. MAGTF (Marine Air Ground Task Force) which maybe a MEU, MEB, or MEF can be deployed. All included four elements. They are the command element, ground combat element, air combat element, and combat service support element.

2. So you're saying MEU doesn't have air squadron, logistics, and supports?
3. hey buddy, I realized airborne used to air drop one of those aluminum tanks way back in the 60s or some crap like that, but who gives a crap? I'm talking about modern warfare

I admit i don't know much about MEU because i'm not a jarhead, but you don't know anything about the Army airborne either.

are you an airborne ranger this week instead of pretending to be a cop?

I think a lot of people here are not stating fact. They favor one branch over the others, which is stupid. We need ALL branches to function efficiently.

So it seems like it depends on the situation or conflict,
the marines are not the conclusive answer but in general it is the marines.

it really depends on the tactical situation and the location of the battle/insertion

there isn't a global rule for this

Marines take their orders from the President...other branches need Congress' approval. What do you think?

This completely depends on what this "ground campaign" is all about. There are many details to consider. Your question is far too general to give a definitive answer to.

no one sets foot on the ground until the air force and navy pound the crap of them with STS missiles and ATG unitions first.

Here comes the shock & awe...

Like its been said a couple of times in this thread before, it all depends on who's the closest that the powers to be can throw in there as a band-aid until they can get a bigger band-aid that'll give them time to figure out what the hell they're going to do. In the mean time the AF is doing its thing blowing sh1t to pieces w00t! :p

If it's near water you can bet your ass there are SEAL's mapping the waterways and doing recon of the landing areas before anything happens.

Thats easy,

The Marine Corps

Wrong. As previously stated Air Force spec ops are the first in and tell everyone else where to go.

Are you guys not reading the OP? He is asking between Army or Marines, which go first. Not Air Force, not Navy, not Coasties, between Army and Marines.
