Which Metallica album should I buy?

If you're a new to Metallica, take a pass on Justice and Kill em' All. Those two albums are a little raw, so to speak, so I would start with some more polished music. I'd pick up Master of Puppets, and if you like that, then RtL. The Black Album is good stuff as well, it's right in between Kill em' All and Load/Reload so far as sound goes. St. Anger sucked.

Ride the Lightning is their best with Kill 'em All in close second. Every single album after RTL got worse and worse. The people recommending S&M are crazy, as that album has pretty awful vocals. Orchestra doesn't really work with metal either.

Definitly the Black Album, it has Enter Sandman. 😀

lol, that's the third worst song on that album. The intro sounds like polka/metal if such a thing ever existed and the part with the child talking is horrible. The chorus is the only good part, and even still Metallica has had dozens better.

That is definitly your opinion, but its my favorite of Metallica because it is the perfect squatting song in the gym, and apparantly it is most others favorite also considering Metallica enjoyed a lot of sucess off of that song.

You're crazy. Listen to Call of Ktulu on S&M and get back to me. I'll admit the second half of disc one isn't all that great, but the rest of it is damn good.

Ok, you have a point. The Call of Ktulu is great on S&M. All of the other songs still suck compared to their original versions though.

everything before the black album. if you have some money left over, then go ahead and get the black album. you can pretty much stop there.

Except S&M which is pretty darn cool also..

No love for the cover album Garage Days Re-Revisited. It not my favorite but definitely worth listening to. Like everyone else said, I like all of them until the black album.

You should have used a poll.

My favorite album is Master of Puppets, and many consider this their masterpiece album (as well as one of the definitive metal albums of all time). I fell in love with the band after hearing the title track, and Orion is one of the greatest instrumental works of their genre.

I'd say And Justice For All is a close second.

And Justice for All - album has Long song with alot of changes, plus its a tribute to Cliff Burton

Master of Puppets - every song is GREAT and I get something different out of it every time

Ride the Lighting - Another great album plus the song I want played at my funeral "Fade to black"

Kill them all - the FIRST one, and make sure and get the one with the MISFIT and VENOM covers on it.

for EXTRA credit buy MEGADETH - KILLING IS MY BUSINESS; because the song stuctues are the same as KILL THEM ALL just different lyrics.

.... Black - I really dont like this album much, but is the ONLY Bob Rock produce album to buy.

After that, just dl the few ok at best songs they have made since taking up Art collecting, Bob Rock, and going sober.

Only Mechanix borrows from Kill 'em All, IIRC.

Correct, Mechanix vs. Four Horsemen.

Oh and as for the original question, buy MOP or anything earlier, everything post MOP sucks.
