Which memory upgrade?

I'm currently running a A64 3700+ on a MSI K8N Neo 4 plat. with a set of Patriot PDC1G3200+XBLK. I want to upgrade to 2048. But, having read the Anandtech article on 2 gb kits, I'm still confused as to whether I should go with a 2 gb kit or just buy another Patriot 1 gb kit. Any good advice would be appreciated.

I guess what you mean is either run 4 512's vs 2 1GB's? They say that running 4 memory dimm's would hinder your performance because it forces the system to run at a 2T command rate vs 1T. Now how much of a performance difference are we talking? I dunno. 😛

If its a Sandiego the performance impact is dropping down from 1T to 2T speed, but stays at DDR400. If you have a Clawhammer speed drops to DDR333 and probably also 2T (im not sure on the 2T for clawhammers though)

It would be ideal in either case to go with 2x 1GB, but if you have a sandiego 2T is supposed to only hurt ~5% or less in most cases. Essentially its not that big of a deal. Its going to come down to how much money you can spend and how much performance your willing to give up.

It's a San Diego. Thanks for the replies. I think I'll go with a new set of 2 X 1gb, now I have to decide which kit to buy. Any input on that?
