<< filled with a major portion of societies "nerds and dorks" >>

1. this includes yourself
2. who you seem to be defending yourself so strongly against, seems strange. if you know you're right, just stop defending and stop posting. you don't care, right?

yes, getting back to college in 2 months will be nice, though I can't complain living in a ghetto right now on a cable (no one else can afford to get a cable modem and slow me down)

I usually get get about 1,000 k /sec download, 50k upload.........depends on the server a lot though, and I use download accelerator sometimes

they work for sure.......i've messed with them a lot (works 298312098 times better with a higher connection speed)

and I use the generic 'download accelerator' (search for it at download.com)

just make sure you tell it to divide it up to 7 parts, works the best if your connection is decent

i think download accelerators are great for people that have mondo-phat bandwidth available to them cause my dsl is only 1.5 megs and i max most my downloads (160k/s) whether i do regular d/l or use download accelerator.

download accelerators are great for people on shared connections with big fat pipes- e.g. t3, ds3, oc3,....)

keep in mind it won't work on crappy servers though......

like they'll have trouble sending you all the files at the same time, so it really just depends

there's a lot of options to mess with, one being ask if you want to do regular or accelerated each time you download
that one is pretty improtant imo.......it always promps me
(much easier to dl something less than 500k without bothering with dap)

I ran a speed test last week and got 4852.9 kilobits / sec. I downloaded a 10 MB file in fifty seconds, and I am on cable. Then the next day my cable was down for three hours, I guess I killed it! :Q

DOWNLOAD ACCELERATOR

seems complicated... i downloaded it and its running in the background. now does this speed up only when i'm downloading somehting or with webpages too? i'm not too sure how it works, i've just got it running as a system service right now in the background, everything is at defualt.

For all you guys going to UC Irvine they are capped. I went to Davis and could download at about 700kB/sec from people at UCSD, UCLA, and others at Davis through IRC. But when I tried downloading off guys at UC Irvine I could barely break the 100kB/sec mark. I tried about four different people and always the same response. UC Irvine caps there upload speeds. I don't know about download speeds.

Damn... everyone's talking like one megabyte+ a second is normal or something. Back when I got my Verizon crap DSL I thought 60 kilobytes a second was fast (thats where I max out).

at the msn speed test 768.4 kbps and that is on a T1 at school, so its probably their server that is causing the slowness.
