Which Maxtor is better?

I'm looking at picking up one of these w/in the next couple of days (unless a deal jumps out):
Diamondmax 10 or
Maxline III

Pretty much the same drive--DM 10 has a 3 yr warranty & a seek time of <9 ms; ML has a 5 yr warranty and a seektime of 9.3 ms. Looks like the DM 10 might be faster, but has less of a warranty--I'm leaning towards the Maxline right now. What do you think?

Thanks!

I vote for the Diamondmax 10. But overall Maxtor's never been my brand; either Seagate or Western Digital (I guess it's just all the problems I've seen other people get with certain models from Maxtor)

And I'll say to each his own. Not to draw ire or refute what you said, but I've had to return seven (7) WD drives in the past 3 years and zero Maxtors. It does not mean Maxtor is necessarily better, but that 100/120GB line from WD is down right flaky IMO. Those are the only drives that I've had to return....and even RMA'd the returns...and RMA'd those as well.

As for the question, it depends on what you are looking for. 9 vs 9.3 is not enough for you to notice. Sounds like you prefer, and would be more comfortable with, the longer warranty.

IMO, it all depends what you are utilizing it for and looking for. However, I think you answered your own question.

Whatever you want, though I find that the 250GB model is the best price ratio at the moment.

Seagate has 5 yr manuf warranty

I never cared for WD, Maxtor, Hitachi; but I agree, to each his own.

They are basically the same drives except the Maxlines have been burned in 24/7 and are rated to perform 24/7 for 1 million hours whereas the Diamondmaxes are not. The Maxlines also have a longer warranty. I would get the Maxline.
