Which make has best driver support?

Someone I know wanted a fast reliable LT, he runs his own small business. He was thinking about Ultrabooks and ready to spend $1500, but I shared a better idea with him.

I suggested that I can buy him a faster and more reliable Notebook for around $1000 (he agreed) and here's my idea -

Buy a i5 Sandybridge LT - $600 - 650
Replace HDD with 256GB M4 (this capacity will be enough for him) - 240
Win7 64 - $100

Total so far ~ $1000, for another $100 he can get a 9-cell battery if the 6-cell runs out too quickly for him.

The only manufacturers we are considering are Dell, Lenovo and HP. Question is, will any of them have problems with drivers? I personally feel Lenovo has the best long term reliability. In any case, I don't thing he will use it for more than 2, 3 years max.

We understand we will loose the warranty once we do what we plan to do...

Why are you buying Windows 7 twice? You can get 64bit from the OEMs now, have been able to for a while.

Also, replacing the drive won't void the warranty.

Sometimes the media is an additional expense, but yea. OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer. So, spec out a Vostro, Latitude, ProBook, EliteBook or Thinkpad for your friend, drop in the SSD, re-install and call it a day.

Lenovo has great driver support. Once you install Windows, you install the ThinkVantage System Update and then just follow the instructions. I've got the x120e netbook with an OCZ 120GB Solid3 and driver stability has been excellent.

Still confused about the OS part... one think to keep in mind, I do not want all the junk that comes with the preinstalled OS, need a fresh install, no added software. Now is to possible to install any WIN 7 OEM (obtained from other sources) and use just the key from the bottom of the LT?

Just reinstall Windows from a retail disc with the OEM key. Works perfectly, will not give you any trouble at all.
If you don't have one, try asking around if someone can lend you the disc (Retail upgrade discs are good, too).

Then, just download the drivers, ignore the other crap they usually include, and you're ready.

You can download Windows from Microsoft. (burn it to dvd) Then use the OEM key usually on the bottom backside of the laptop.
