Which mac to get? Needed for work

Hey, I don't know anything about macs, but I need to choose one to purchase for work.

The only requirement: that it has the latest and greatest wireless embedded in the system. That means 802.11g with WPA2 capabilities. 802.11a would be nice too. Otherwise, cheaper is better (and new is better than refurb).

It can be either a notebook or a desktop, I'm not sure what we're going to go with.

Which model(s) do you suggest? Would you put up a link for me?

THANK YOU, quite frankly macs scare me, your help is appreciated!

It's as if you just asked what kind of car you should buy? All you know is it needs to have 4 wheels and can handle more than one passenger. Anyone here who recommends anything to you with the info you supplied is doing you a disservice. Find out exatly what specs it needs besides wireless and what it will be used for most of the time and then a recommendation can be made.

okay, I can be a little more specific:
-We decided(just now) that we'd prefer a notebook.
-Processor: Intel
-The system must be brand new (aka, purchased from apple.com)
-must have at least 1 PCMCIA slot
-must have embedded wireless (802.11g, WPA2 and/or 802.11a)
-Must be as cheap as possible to still meet all of the above requirements

I swear the following things DO NOT MATTER for our purchase:
-video
-memory
-speed (clock, bus, and memory)
-Storage
-screen size
-other i/o ports
-bluetooth
-weight

Any questions?
If not, I'd love a link to a particular system on apple.com

No current Mac laptops have a PCMCIA slot.

They have an expresscard 34 slot which is the replacement to PCMCIA and Cardbus.

802.11g is pretty much standard on mobile macs.
1024MB or more ram is worth it although not essential.

okay, then no PCMCIA 🙂

So, that's fine the 802.11g is standard, but do they all support WPA2? and, do any support 802.11a?

Really any amount of RAM is allright as long as the system will run- we will not be installing alot of applications on here

hm, so the bottom-of-the-line macbook on apple.com says "AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth" under specifications.

Is this:
1) Integrated?
2) Capable of WPA2?
3) 802.11a?

Yea it's integrated, and capable of wpa2 (I know this from personal experience) I dunno bout the 802.11a, my guess would be no. I'm sure you can find it out from the mac website.

I have the 2nd tier macbook (2ghz white) and I am quite pleased. However I paid <800 CAD for it incl taxes... muaahahhaa
