I'm looking for a mid-range remote for my devices. I was curious as to which ones I should be concentrating on. NewEgg has the discontinued 688 for $59.99 with a coupon code but the buttons look to close together for me. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...O3D-_-80100709

I've also been looking around ebay and a refurb is not out of the question. Is the 680 better than the 659? I just want a good universal remote without paying a fortune for it. Presently I only have a SDTV, Onkyo receiver and dvd/vcr combo.

Ugh, I HATE the cellphone style button Harmony remotes. I'd recommend either a Logitech Harmony 700 or a Harmony 676 depending on what your budget is. If you can manage to shell out the bucks though as always the Harmony One is highly recommended.

Thanks for your input nsafreak. The harmony one is definitely too expensive for me. I did see a used 676 yesterday so I might take another look at it.

Another 700 user here. I use it with my Media Center PC and couldn't be happier.

The 700 would have been nice but it was too pricey. I went with a refurbished 620 for $46 shipped from tiger direct on ebay. From what I read the 620 is similar to the 670 but the 620 is black and only controls 12 devices whereas the 670 does 15.

I have another question if anyone is around. Would you purchase the optional 1 year warranty from square trade for $7? The 620 already has a 90 warranty so the year would be added on to it.

For $7 I guess it won't hurt but I read so many glowing reviews of Logitechs warranty that you might be better off dealing with them if there's an issue.

Thanks. I looked into the warranty a little more and I can wait a while to get it if I choose to. I would guess if the remote fails it would be within the included 90 day warranty.
