Which LCDs now come with a 16ms response time or better?

It seems more are available now than just that Hitachi.

Also, which has the highest contrast ratio?

The Hitachi and the Planar have a 400 contrast ratio. The NEC has a 450:1 ratio. I myself ordered the NEC 1760NX (the one with DVI) but they also have the 1760VM which is analog only.

I've got a Viewsonic VG191b but I've been unable to figure out what the response time is on it. Super nice though.

Response Time 25ms (typical) Link .

Most 19" TFTs are around 25ms.So far only some 17" TFTs models have 16ms response time.

17" wise for 16ms ,I do like the look of NEC/MITSU 1760NX here ,black colour would be my choice.

*****Update 5/17/03*****

I canceled my order for the NEC 1760NX (ordered May 3rd, ship date was ESTIMATED at June 3rd). I have replaced the order with the Viewsonic VP171B. I recieved the monitor a couple of days ago and this is what I have found:

First, I have the Dell 1800FP and Sony G520P for comparison. The response time is 16ms, so there is no ghosting!!! I just watched the movie Driven (the one with Sly Stalone and the F1 cars!) and played UT 2003 for a few hours. They are excellent on this monitor. As far as the colors go...the monitor doesn't let you down. The colors to me appear to be more vivid than on the 1800FP, and are a great comparison to my G520. However, I do feel that the Sony can be "tuned" to have the best color but that is only done after alot of work and by someone who knows what to do and how to do it.. The 171B is pretty bright, and I find it to be bright enough even in direct sunlight. Overall, I like the 171B better than the 1800FP. I wish the screen was a larger like a 19" or 20", but it is a great monitor none the less. I think for most of my uses... games, movies, creating network maps and engineering... I made the right choice. I think the 1760NX (and its sister --> Planar PX17x series) is a great monitor, but does fall a little short in comparison to the VP171B. But what the hey... it is only my opinion.

Some of the things that "annoyed" me with the benq fp767 I had were :

1) the darks are REALLY dark... too dark.
2) I could see the pixel grid which bothered me a lot too.
3) the screen was too contrasty.. it hurt my eyes.

Do you notice any of these things on the others? Apparently they all use the same screen.

Don't get me wrong I think the screen was good, given the right conditions it would be excellent. The lightning in my room didn't lend well to it but heck, what do I know. Everybody will like certain monitors better than others! :) (I ended up settling on the AL716, which is a 20ms response time and I just love it)

I also called dell today and cancelled my order for my NEC 1760nx b/c I ordered on April29th (knowing it was backordered for 5-7 days) and ended up being delayed three times with an estimated ship date of june 3rd.... To me this was unacceptable :disgust:

I'm also looking to rethink my decision and probably also order a viewsonic VP171B, mack have you used the NEC 1760NX before and your comparing your own experience to the viewsonic? Thanks for your input about the monitor. Also how does the construction feel and whats your opinion on the look overall.

Thanks Again,
Gamer

Samsung SyncMaster 192T

In the drop down list, look for "SyncMaster 192T MM". The response time on this LCD is 25ms, same as the current 191T. I think it may have a 1600x1200 max resolution based on what this site says.

Gamer,
I liked the NEC, as I was able to play with it a local PC retailer. I think the two monitors are VERY similar, probably the same actual panel. The Viewsonic that I am typing on right now, has a little bit of a softer look to it. The colors are just as clean and sharp, but softer and more appealing to my eye on the 171B. It isnt too harsh, just right. The darks are very dark like it has been stated before, but not OVERLY dark to me. The construction of the two are both excellent, but I do feel the NEC is slightly better. That is not to say that the VP171B is constructed poorly, but the screen feels a little flimsier due to it not being as thick on the side bezels. I like the thinner sides as I plan to buy a second one now, so I can have a dual display setup. I am a person that favors thin bezels.

Mack

P.S. - I am not happy about Dell or NEC and their shipments of the 1760NX. I know its not Dell's fault, as there are other vendors that are waiting on NEC as well. I think it is taking too long for them to replace the supply for the demand.

mack,

one last question for you, do you play games on the viewsonic? also does the thin bevel on the viewsonic give it a bigger looking screen? (i mean according to the eye, i know actual measurements are the same)

Thanks again for you help
Gamer

edit:
The samsung looks like another winner, but its sure to be costly (out of my budget :( )

I've heard from a couple sources that pixel response time isn't the ONLY thing that effect ghosting/trailing... the rising and falling times are important too... which is why some 40 ms LCD's don't have any ghosting or trailing.

huh? response time IS rise+fall time.

And the new Samsung 19" definately is >16ms. Its the 1st one they are plannig to bring out with a 17" later in the year. I spoke to a Samsung rep during CeBit.
