Which laptop to get?

Here is my dilemma:

Dell Inspiron 600m | 1.60Ghz | 14.1-in SXGA+ | 4.98lbs | 6-cell 53Whr battery - $950 shipped
Dell Inspiron 700m | 2.00Ghz | 12.1-in WXGA | 4.10lbs | 8-cell 65Whr battery - $1220 shipped

all the other specs are identical:
- 1Gb DDR SDRAM
- 80Gb HDD
- 24X CD Burner/DVD combo
- 802.11 b/g, 54Mbps wireless
- 1yr Warranty
- Free Dell Color Printer 720

Depends on what you're doing obviously. If you're gonna game with any kind of newer games especially, the extra .4 ghz will help tremendously. If you're not gonna be either gaming or using programs like photoshop, save the money and go with the 1.6.

well...if your gonna just use it around the home..get the 600m...if your a student and dragging it around campus you will appreciate the 700m or if you drag it around a lot traveling.

the 400 extra mhz might mean nothing if you only use your laptop for typing stuff and watching videos

think if it's worth spending extra money on going with a 2.0ghz over a 1.6ghz

another thing, don't buy ram off dell

they charge at least twice as much as other brands. just buy the ram you want off crucial

it might actually to be cheaper to buy two sticks of 512mb off crucual than upgrading the 256mb dell stick into a 512mb stick

I'm sorry, but the 600m has so much more going for it. It's still light weight at around 5 lbs, it has a 14" screen, it has the largest keyboard Dell offers on their notebooks (the same keyboard is on the 8600, 6000, 9300, 9100, 9200 and XPS 1 & 2), it has a dedicated GPU, the Radeon 9000 with 32MB of RAM if you didn't select the 64MB option, it has a hot-swappable bay so you can swap out a floppy or a longer-life battery depending on what you need, SXGA resolution is higher than the 700m. The 600m still has legacy serial and parallel port if you need them.

I would have no hesitation recomendding the 600m. My wife has one she uses for school, and she took a look at the 700m recently but said the smaller screen and cramped keyboard really wouldn't work. She absolutely hates my 6000. I can't pry the 600m out of her hands.
