i am tring to decide whether to buy a Gateway 7405gx up grade the hard drive to 7k60 hitatchi and puta 1 gig chip in the memory (take out one 256 and put the chip in) or gettin the Uniwill N258KA0 - 258KA0 from i buy power with 1 g of mem a64 3200+ and the 7k60 plus a dvd writer.
both have simular specs. i read good things about both chipsets. since that is the main difference.
i cannont find a review that compares both together or run the same benchmarks. i have checked through all the emacs reviews to find something too. i am not worried about the ati 9700 since i know that it doesnt make much difference. the 9600 can be oc to do the same. and the 9700 doesnt oc well. they cost nearly the same

if anyone has a unwill based machine that would comment that would be cool. i know alot about the gateway/emachines computers

Prices would help in making the decision.
I would guess the Gateway is cheaper, as they have instant rebates @ BBY stores, and thus I would go with it. ALso, BBY's warranty is pretty damn good for a retail store and IMO is a must with a laptop.

Make sure that's what you really want because if you buy the Gateway and have second thoughts about a Uniwill or any other laptop not available at BestBuy, you'll get stuck with ye olde restocking fee (15% I believe) once you open the box.

Dudes,

Always go with a new PC and forget the upgrades IMHO. Upgrades can be tricky and can cause software/hardware problems, as has been my experience.

The mobility 9700 overclocks crap? Mine runs at 560/255 from 445/216. I guess its more dependant on cooling. Im also using the 258KA0 chassis with the 7k60 and Athlon 64 3000+

fro mwhat i have read the 9600 can over clock to nearly as high as the 9700 can. i have read pretty much everything on the mobile market for gpus. but yours has gone higher than most of what i have read. excellent. o and the upgrades i do upgrades to everything. i think i can handle the hard drive and memory. two skrews cuople of cable and you done. if i wanted too i would take the keyboard out to chang the inner chip. o mem

also where did you buy your
258kao. in case i decide to buy it

Im from england, it came as part of the Fujisu Siemens Amilo A 1630 package. The 9700 is based on low-k dielectrics , which means it has a bit more room to run faster, in a mobile environment. The 258kao has some superb cooling for the CPU and the GPU. PM me if you have any more questions, I dont browse here often.

The 9600 mobility has limited PowerPlay ability, and doesn't overclock as well. It also uses more power, because the 9700 uses the 9600XT technology (low-k).

Get the Uniwill. That's what I have, and it kicks all ass :)
