Which kind of tv to buy

I am looking to buy a new TV and started another thread, but decided to do a poll just to see what is best. I have around $2500 to spend on a big screen, want a great picture, but want something that will last a long time. Please select a choice above and list the pros and cons of that type of tv.

Be sure to take a look at the new Samsumg HL-S5087W. It uses the latest generation DLP TI chip, and has a 5 segment color wheel. It has native 1080p resolution, it can take a 1080p signal through it's 2 HDMI inputs. It has 10000:1 contrast, 10 bit processing, and a game mode.

You should see it in stores around 5/10/06, and you should have no problem getting it for about $2500.

EDIT: You can find the HL-S6187W in some Sears, CC & BB now if you want to take a peek.

Stay away from Plasma. They run hot, they have burn issues with the screen, and they last on the average 5 years. Sony is getting out of the plasma screens altogether. Go with LCD.

DLP viewing angles blow, especially vertically. Modern plasmas last just as long as LCDs and don't have near the burn-in problem that people would make you believe. I'd say 42" or lower, get an LCD; Anything bigger, get a plasma.

DLP Projector

Edit: I'm not sure what people are talking about with the viewing angles. I have a DLP projector and I can stand anywhere and see it just as well as if I were sitting right in front of it.

LCD or DLP. You need your own power plant just for the electricity used by Plasma.

I'm a fan of Plasma myself... I sold all this stuff recently at an electronics store, and I really do endorse plasma. They're "cool" too 😛
