So, maybe it's just me. I have been looking for something better for quite some time. I always find something I like a lot, apply, and never hear anything (not abnormal). BUT, now I've been referred by two seperate friends to their respective companies. While a formal offer hasn't been made, I should have one next week, and will know wether or not to expect one from the other place, also next week. So I'm stuck making a decision between two VERY good opportunities.
Here is the key common points on the two:
Both are IT Help Desk positions.
Both would be an excellent experience booster.
Both are excellent opportunities to learn a ton of new stuff, and have excellent career progression potential.
Now here are the differences:
Job 1:
- Is a 53 mile communte each way; approximately 1.5 hours.
- Smaller company, smaller (not as nice) office.
- Medical benefits not as good, but still decent.
+ HUGE learning potential, pretty much as soon as I started.
+ Work hard, play harder.
+ I could not ask for 2 better/cooler people to work with than the lead and manager.
Job 2:
+ Easy commute via Park & Ride
+ Larger company, good sized office, VERY nice
+ Excellent medical benefits
+ Little more $$
+ More corporate atmosphere...
- More corporate atmosphere
- While there is a lot of learning opportunity, it's further down the line (12+ months)
Heh, if i could have my way, I'd be able to choose #2, but with the people from #1
My dilemma is this. I'm leaning heavily toward #2. BUT, I'm in no position to turn ANYTHING down, as both are head and shoulders BETTER than my current job. BUT, I will more than likely have a formal offer from #1 the first half of next week, and I may be looking at around 2 weeks before I have one from #2.
I want to be honest with #1, but this could backfire and there is the small possibility I could get completely screwed if I did. I also don't want to take an offer only to say otherwise 1-2 weeks later. I can probably buy 1 week of time, but that would be pushing it.....
