I'm in Washington state and I live near Puyallup. Anyway, I have Comcast, but lately it's been going really slow; I've reset the system countless times but the net still goes much slower than it was just a few months before. A flyer came from CenturyTel about it's Fiber Optic service in our area and, lo and behold, it touts better speeds than Comcast. I'm wondering if anyone can give me some feedback on whether or not I should give the CenturyTel a try or just stick with Comcast? Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

You can try out dslreports.com for feedback on the providers in your area. If it is indeed a fiber optic solution, Fiber to your Home (FTTH) then I'd certainly jump on it.

Yep, it was a little flier that said direct fiber optic network, I'm kind of skeptical at this point since it also offered a free Wii too with the service, this is why I'm asking Anandtech because I trust you guys.

Call up the number and inquire about it. Fiber to the home is indeed a great internet service. High speeds, low maintenance, isn't affected much by distance like dsl but isn't as shared like cable is.

Centurytel claims that their backbone has 400GB capacity....... I am very skeptical about this.

I checked about the dslreports.com and found nothing near me with centurytel. I really wish I had more information regarding centurytel and their services before switching...

Are you sure its FTTH and not just a fiber backbone?

How fast does your Comcast go on speed tests?
