A good half of california is completely if you consider the Bay Area as being part of the southern half. Because outside of that, there really isn't anything worth mentioning that is north of the Bay Area.

and Oklahoma, wyoming, and Arizona.

It's also nice to have the beach, the bay, cities, museums, mountains, lakes, historical places, and rivers all within a 2 hour drive.
